K 04 Turbo..

Featured Replies

Has any one fitted the k04 turbo to their skoda? If so did it come with tuning software?

I have been toying with the idea as a friend in Germany can possibly get hold of them cheap.........all totally legit

Apparentley you need a new exhaust, fuel regulater running 4/5 bar, and possibly new injectors....any comments would be welcome as the expected 240bhp in standard trim would cost a lot more than say a "jabba" chip to the K03.........

The turbo fitted to the octy vRs is not a standard K03, it is infact a K03S. what does that mean?, well it means you basically have the inside of a K04 turbo but in a K03 housing. I dont think you will gain much by fitting a k04 if anything.

Not worth it IMHO.

Yep...2 versions of the K04.....one that is basically the same as fitted on the RS and the one that's on the TT.

TT one....I think it's a 0001 K04.......needs new manifold etc as it's slightly bigger. Obviously a remap would also be needed to get the best out of it. Perhaps would give the same as a remapped 225BHP TT....around 270-280bhp???? However this would be right at the limit of what the turbo could do, I think.

The smaller one gives out around 230bhp...same as a Jabba remap so why bother?

Better bang for you buck options out there. ;)

Thanx for your views guys........i think the hassle it would create would not be worth it i just thought you could remap it to nearer 280bhp with the k4 fitted...

perhaps Adrian you better put me on the next GB for jabba.;) or AMD as they are local but more expensive:rolleyes:

Judging from the price put up by one of the Furby RS guys....approx

The "good" K04 is the K04-23 (BorgWarner part no. 5304 988 0023 - oem part no. 06A145704Q) fitted to the s3/tt 225hp. This turbo can give 270-290 hp, but in order to go there you also need: exhaust manifold, water and oil hoses, downpipe, injectors (380cc), maf, and of course a new program.

AmD fitted me with a K04 and manifold/down pipe and remapped, to give a 245 bhp output and a fat wodge of torque (263 lbft). This year, the car is going to Jabba for a FMIC conversion and remap/boost controller; we will see what they can eek out of the engine..... Will keep you posted!

Sorry if I'm veering slightly OT here, but HOW are you guys getting these power figures from a remap :smashfrea  I've got basically the same car as y'all, (ARX 1.8T Quattro) and yet, my remap got me 210hp and 242ft/lbs  So WTF are jabba doing different?

Thx

Some VAG cars yield better results than others but I would have thought 210 is beatable.

Suggest you ring Jabba & ask them what they would expect to get from your car, they are usually about right with their estimate.

The only other things are that perhaps you have a problem on the car which is holding it back ( Turbo Pipes, Dump valve etc). if not then as we all know Jabba have the knack !!!

Well, I might consider it, if were in the right country :D But after asking, I looked around a bit, and from what I can tell, Oettinger pretty much uses an "Off-the-shelf" program. So MAYBE what I should do is ring Oettinger back and see if they'd be game for a little "Tweaking"

On off the shelf chip will never yield the same results as a custom remap...like generic maps they have to work for all cars they are designed for.

Taking the Octy RS/4X4 as an example they engines are the same but each will have their our characteristics and give different results.

Drill,

where abouts are you?

The furtherest one of our members has travelled for a Jabba rempa is Norway.

I'm in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. About 45 minutes SSW of Frankfurt :)

Wouldn't be going over for Jabba I'm afraid, but WILL be asking Oettinger if it's possible to "Tweak" my remap, as they've already done it once :D Just not to get the most out of it ;)

I suggest you speak with Mattijs from Holland on here. He bought a 4x4 and fitted an Oettinger re-chip a year ago - I know that he had a lot of conversations with them about the set-up for the 4x4 model and the power output.

I had an Oettinger re-chip on a previous Audi A4 Q, but was lucky enough to hear about Jabba when I got my 4x4 Octavia. I asked for a low-risk, normal unleaded remap with more torque low down, and still came out with 220bhp. Others as you know, have regularly come out in the 225-235 range. From personal experience, I'd say its the amount of time they spend on each car and the rolling road that delivers the extra.

Rob

Not much to say about that, really - only that the dealer sold me the chip before he found out that Oettinger hadn't actually programmed one for the 4x4! They have now...

Can't compare with Jabba (or JD in the Netherlands, must still drive one of "his" cars) but I find the Oettinger re-chip a very pleasant one - it's really mapped for low-down torque, hence the lower peak hp. I'm not having it as an Autobahnstormer, then I'd have a vRS instead.

The huge torque also matches the lower gearing, so it's all about clean acceleration and easy, powerful cornering. In terms of ECU programming preferences I think you and me talk the same language, Rob...

A K04 can give more power than a K03s, but as has been said, it's probably not that much...

My car (K04 turbo) in totaly stock setup produced 234.2bhp at Stealth's rollers, where the Jabba'd & Revo'd cars were seeing around the 270bhp mark iirc, with Revo having the highest torque, but Jabba the smoother maps.

Saying that, most stock 210 LCR's normally get between 215 - 220bhp, so I don't know what's different with mine... maybe it's the neons & fluffy dice...

Also, although I've only seen 1 Jabba'd LCR on Stealth's rollers, and despite the fact the ambient temperatures at Stealth were a lot lower than when the car was Jabba'd, it didn't reach the 284bhp that the Jabba rollers showed, but was a touch under 270bhp...

Saying that though, I have seen an Octy vRS (K03s) get 250bhp at Stealth... can't remember who it was though...

IMO, a K04 could be good for an extra 20 - 30bhp over a K03s, give more low down torque, and maintain power higher up the rev range than a K03s.

I recently had a K04 fitted to my SEAT Leon at Star Performance and the final dyno run it produced 255BHP and 269lbft of torque, previously with some bolt-ons and a remap it was around 220BHP, dunno on the tq. With some more tweaking 260 and 280 is possible, time will tell!

It's not all about numbers though, the K04 holds onto boost far better than my K03S - the kick in the back feels much more prominent too. It'll never compare to a big turbo conversion but personally I feel it's worth the asking price - I paid
