Today I have mostly been detailing the missus' Fabia and I'm pretty pleased with the results...

Materials used:

Hose

Bucket

Sponge

9 year old boy

Promise of a trip to see the Simpsons' movie

BTW, when did it stop being called washing and start being called detailing?:)

Ah ha! so this is why people have kids! ..Now i understand! :D

Always thought the only difference between a valeter (someone who gives a car a good clean) to a detailer is that the valeter can sleep at night as detailing`s essentially the same thing.

Good stuff. You just need to clean round the base of that aerial - there's a slight white residue left.

Ive spent all day polishing out scratches in the wife's Fiesta where some toerag had apparently rested a large box on the roof and then dragged it across sideways

Give the kid a break, he's only little!:D

Think of the damage that would be done when the kid climbed on the roof to do it. :P

From what I can tell, this is more like child slavery. :D

I have a HTP badge like that on the back of mine at the moment too. ;)

Good job  - and not a Toblerone in sight :D

Don't see many Fabby's in that colour around here - nice / cute

I'd not seen many until we bought this one and now there are loads about.

I'm still looking for one that's had a heavy rear impact so I can have the bumper and bonnet off of it though...

i have a 9 year old kid, she's certainly aint allowed anywhere near the car when i wash it. i can quite easily see her drop the mitt/cloth/or similar washing/detailing item on the floor then wipe it hard across the car with the foriegn particles off the floor attached to the mitt/cloth/similar cleaning aparatus:eek:

The way recent events have been going :thumbdwn: you won't have to wait too long.

Now, dammit (cos I sucked up nicely  ), can I have my Toblerone ? :P

Why do you think I'm training him on the missus' car :D

Did you put anything in the bucket? Water perhaps, along with car shampoo of some description? ;)

I can confirm that the above process is still described as 'car cleaning'

Detailing - 'the systematic rejuvenation and protection of the various surfaces of a vehicle'. Valeting - 'To clean the body-work and interior of (a car) as a service'. Discuss :P

While you probably didn't ask with any degree of seriousness involved, the difference between detailing and valeting, to me, is that valeting is with speed of result in mind. At their pricing level, if a valeter spent hours on each car, they'd never make any money. A good professional detailer would work until the desired result is achieved.

That's why you'll see different products offered to enthusiasts and valeters. The Meguiars website is a good example of this. Their enthusiast products are made to a higher standard than the bulk valeting stuff, because that market sector expects a better standard of finish. I heard it at Meg's UK HQ myself :)

Anyway, I've rambled on enough. Just my tuppence worth :)

Glad this has come up, I was either gonna buy Megs Shampoo Plus or Gold Wash when I run out of AG. But how much different is it really? Anyone compared them?

Not done a direct comparison, but all I'll say is that Gold Class and NXT shampoos are the best I've used on a car.

Just metioned to my 8 year old daughter about washing the Landy for me, from the look on her face think it might be a non started.
