Having been to see a 2nd hand Octavia vrs today only to find that it was sold, I'm now back to square 1. As I've (almost) decided on a ?sprint? yellow one, I figure I might be in for a wait.

Does anyone have any experience of asking a dealer to "keep an eye out" ? Good idea, bad idea ? Or am I better just watching the used car check on the skoda site ?

Have you checked Autotrader and classified's on here and on PistonHeads, or did you want to buy from a Skoda main dealer?

MK1 or MKII?

Whilst it'll undoubtedly result in a faster delivery, the problem with getting a dealer to keep an eye out is they know you're very particular & as such are less likely to come down on price. :(

Didn't know pistonheads had a classified section - have just had a quick butchers, but the one modded to 240bhp doesn't quite fit the bill ... Autotrader was a bit more promising when I looked outside of 40miles (sure I'd done that before, but obviously not). Would probably prefer a main dealer, but sometimes you have to take what you can get.

I was getting real frustrated trying to find myself a Mk1 vRS in Silver. I just ended up checking here, Autotrader and Pistonheads everyday to see if anything new had popped up. Fortunately I saw a car that fitted the bill on Autotrader the day it went on and managed to get to it before it sold!

I went out and saw it today before they'd even had a chance to valet it etc. and slapped down a deposit!
