Bad Idle - Barkers Grimsby had for nearly three weeks and nothing improved

Featured Replies

argh posted twice sorry :S

Being told its a characteristic of the car is very annoying. It does it, so yes it a characteristic, but it shouldn't be there. Stating its a characteristic suggests it is designed as such, and then they expect people to pay

This most be frustrating for all those affected.

I would hope that it is relatively simple to force a refund etc through the small claims court if you can prove that your car is considerably rougher than usual. My experience of my two fabis vrss is that they don't have a rough idle at all. Therefore, these defective vehicles certainly don't have a characteristically rough idle

Thanks for the suggestions. The flywheel was changed as the first solution without result. They're talking about new injectors but at

Fabvrs,

After reading the post about upping the idle speed curing it, has that not been tried on yours yet Prasg? The ASZ idles at about 900rpm which I thought was high when I first got mine but is apparently normal. I take it the latest BLT's idle at about 700rpm?

My ASZ does shudder slightly every now and again at idle but it's very slight. I imagine with a lower idle speed it would be worse.

The EGR valve should not be doing much at idle anyway so I doubt the 'fix' would have much effect. The EGR does most of its work under gentle throttle. Under WOT it's once again doing bugger all.

Yes it was tried many moons ago (literally). Also, various re-programming was attempted. Thanks for enquiring.

Hmm....how odd. And Skoda have said this is only the BLT as fitted to the SE that's doing it? Only the most recent ones?

The dealer called today and they're giving me my car back until Skoda provide a fix for the problem. I've got a funny feeling this isn't going to be quick!!

Hard to believe skoda have not got an answer, if we had problem with the kit we sell , the manufacturer would have jumped on this situation, bad vibes means unhappy customers. I guess you got to live with it time being ??

Has anybody mentioned replacing the MAF yet?

(I have the same problem and quite frankly can`t be arsed with the dealers but i changed my air filter and it has reduced the shudder or lumpy tickover by half)

I don't see why they don't just transplant the whole engine if they don't know what's wrong. It smacks of penny pinching. They should just be replacing parts on their 'test car' till they find out which part is guilty.

After a few weeks when they said they had had no success and I wasn't too pleased, they said, "well what would you like us to do." I said, 'replace the engine if you can't find what's wrong.' I can't remember the exact reply but it was along the lines of, you must be joking.

Customer Services have just phoned. The car Skoda is working on is near completion. They have tried replacing bits. I asked Jennie if it were likely to be a positive or negative outcome. She was very evasive but hinted there was a slight improvement and whatever they have done will be tried on my car. She said just because there may be an improvement with that car does not necessarily mean it will work with mine.

I asked if Volkswagen etc had had the same problem and she said she could not comment. I asked whether the Skoda technicians had asked VW and she said no as even though they are apparently the same engine there may be differences. I said there were a few more cars exhibiting the fault and asked her how many had been reported. She said she couldn't comment though she said later she only knew of two - mine and the one at Skoda base.

I'm not at all confident that there is a fix.

Well I got my vRS back today and the dealer says the problem has decreased slightly. I've not had chance to warm it up fully and let it idle yet so I can't comment on any improvement. They've said it will be called back in when Skoda provide a fix.

When I asked what would happen if they couldn't fix it I was assured they would. At that point I did bring up the issue of the Skoda stutter, saying if they can't fix that why must they be able to fix this. No comprehensive answer from the dealer!!

To summarise how I feel at the moment, i'm pleased to have my vRS back but the shine has long gone from my Skoda ownership experience. I was pretty unhappy about the whole stutter saga not being resolved and now to have another problem that can't be fixed (at this time) is just the icing on the cake. My opinion of Skoda has crashed and burned and it would take a lot to impress me, not that I think they're bothered about what their customers think anyway. I always said i'd buy another when this one's gone to the scrappy in the sky but not any more. How can you sell cars that have unfixable problems and not do anything about it?

Rant over, sorry!!

You could just sell it yourself if you can live with taking the depreciation hit.

Well to finish off:

Had car for a few days now and they seem to have cured the idle problem by using what they had found out with the car they had back at base.

Barkers will give its first service free and Skoda will pay 50% of a future service of my choice.

Thank you to all those who have contributed to this ongoing thread and offered advice and/or solutions.

pleased your sorted at last

Thanks Nud and thank you for the earlier offer to compare cars. I'll have to watch out for you when I'm passing through North Lincs.

  • 1 year later...

My local garage still haven't worked out a fix for this problem and Skoda haven't provided a solution. I'm interested to know what they did to fix the car mentioned in this thread as it's over a year since I first reported this and we're still no further on. I got a call back from Skoda customer services today and they were the same as usual, refusing to commit to anything or offer any form of compensation until the problem is fixed once and for all.

  • 8 months later...

Over two and a half years after first finding this fault with my vehicle Skoda technical confirmed yesterday that they do not know how to fix my car and are now calling it a characteristic of the engine. When I said this wasn't acceptable they referred me back to the original dealership that sold me the car but having spoken to them i'm not holding my breath for anything back from them. The dealership have said put it in writing but taking cars back after this length of time is highly abnormal. I'm also on with Skoda Finance complaints dept and will be getting in touch with Skoda Customer Services complaints dept but if the service so far is anything to go by I may as well go bang my head against a brick wall.

The dealership have suggested this will come down to a legal argument between myself and Skoda which is a shame when they could have done something to keep me happy earlier on during this saga.

I'll post updates as and when I get them.

Doesn't it just need the drilled out gasket mod? I hear the idle vibration is a common issue with the SE (although mine isn't really noticeable).
