Skoda "Test pipe" De-cat

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Is it possible to get a "Test pipe" or bypass pipe for the CAT on a MK1 Skoda vRS?

I need to do some testing...

Hmm, i was under the impression diesels didnt have cats. Maybe they do now.

I'll go away and hide then!:o

I meant on the 1.8t Octavia vRS engine :)

Well, they do... but they don't need them. Diesel's only have smoke tests, no emissions... therefore it's not really going to matter much if you take it out.

the car has 2 O2 sensors, one pre and one post cat but decatting it simply brings up a warnging light and thats it.

As bengie has said, you will get the CEL light on the dash but performance will be unaffected. You would also need to rig something up so that you could put the cat back in, because without it the car will fail the MOT or roadside test on emissions. I had a sports cat on my old one, and it could barely pass the MOT.

Hi, mine has the de cat pipe fitted in the second link. It works ok but is not perfect. First you get the engine management ligh on to tell you that the cat is performing under threshold(forget fault code number)

And second is under hard acceleration it knocks on the steering rack.:( ....However this was cured by fitting the uprated "dog bone" engine mount from awsome)thanks Sarah

hope it helps, Jim.

Is it worth it for the extra noise / performance tho? ;)

I found no increase in noise at all

And at first the performance difference was like night and day to me but now I think I have got used to it, as is the way with these things i suppose.

Ah would of thought there would of been a fair bit more noise on!

jimvrs the problem with owning a fast car!

Fast ...slow... mod...fast!!!....slow....mod....! And so it continues...;)

I hear the de-cat can free up 10-15bhp.

brother does this on his focus and driving with the decat on feels normal but there is quite a change in performance and noise when the cat goes back on. feels sluggish and doesn't pop as much. the noise is also deeper with the cat on.

This is what BlueFlame quote ;)

If you wish you can upgrade the system with our full MOTORSPORT Down pipe and 100cpsi catalytic converter for an extra

Yeah that's what puts me off - I don't want to drive around wth an orange warning light all the time.

A CAT isn't legally required here - there's no emissions testing at the moment :D

Well there is. The tester looks at the exhaust smoke and says "yep, looks okay"

That's my kind of testing!

Yea, the warning light does put me off...

Was just toying with the idea anyhow!

take the bulb out

You can get a contraption that will help you with the CEL problem. I looked into this when I had my Octavia and I believe Briskoda member Wayne Kerr was doing the same.

It consists of a machines block to wwhich you fit the second sensor, this is then fitted to the exhaust - it works by standing the sensor away from the flow of exhaust fumes and as a result tricks it into thinking the emmisions have been changed (by the cat).

Sadly I dont have any info on it anymore but you may find some over on the Golf MK4 forums.

take the bulb out

There are no bulbs, they are tiny little surface mount LED's attached directly to the circuit board.
