Traction control & ABS lights?

Featured Replies

Afternoon All, a bit assistance please;

I've got intermittent ABS and traction control lights on my dash in the last few days, but only when it's raining.

Any ideas?

Well the ASR will kick in if you are being a bit naughty with the loud pedal.

As I found out being a bit too keen coming off a roundabout the other day.

along with manhole covers and oil patches ;)

Do you have ABS and ASR kicking in, or just the lights on the dash?

Chris

you can feel the ABS kick in the brake pedal will kick back at you and with the TC you get a sort of jolt through the accelerator

I have no ABS or traction control when the lights are on, but they light up for some journeys as soon as ignition is turned on ... and other times it's fine.

The only common denominator being wet weather.

This happens to me also when i turn the ignition, in wet or dry. Begining to start to worry will check with the dealer on tues as she goes in for her 40k service.

Sounds like a faulty ABS sensor in one of the wheel hubs to me?

I believe a scan with VAGCOM will tell you which one is faulty, then I think it's just a case of unscrew the faulty one and screw in the new one. (At least it was on my Golf 4!)

Yeah sounds like it, you have not had your tyres changed recently have you?

David

isn't there a problem with water getting into the wiring loom , on the N/S/F wheel arch area, i seem to remember a few posts about it recently

Hi all, i've got the ABS and traction control lights flashing up on ignition (not every time), and then going out a couple of seconds later. Been doing this for 2 weeks now so i've got it booked into Murrays Skoda (newton abbot) on friday. They will (hopefully) also be fixing a dodgy rear left door seal thats letting water in. It's an 05 car so still under warrany. Will let you know how it goes!

Hello "mab" im living in Colchester but am a Newton Abbot boy!

Where abouts do you live?

Im down this weekend.

Cant say ive had this problem myself although my traction does kick in every day in this weather but im not complaining.

Mine come on the instant I start the car, then after a second or two they go out.

If it gets worse I'll be off to the dealer.

If the lights come on "randomly" during the course of a drive, then I'd second the idea of a dodgy sensor or sensor wiring. Last time I had anything similar was in an Astra D (? 1998>) . I "proved" that the ABS was knackered by standing on the brakes on a deserted motorway sliproad. :) Still it was a company car. :D

IIRC, i had a similar problem with this on my ibiza, aparently if the rear brake light bulb goes, it disables the TC, ABS & ESP. That was the problem on mine anyways, but i also had the glow plug light flashing away aswell when this happened.

In relation to them coming on with the ignition, I thought as long as they go out again then it's OK? When they come on it's just them doing a self diagnostic check isn't it? I've noticed in the cold weather they stay on a bit longer than usual, but then so does my glow plug light.

i spoke to skoda this week about this and they have told me as long as they go out on initial start up and dont come on again whilst driving then everything is ok.... it is due to the rain and cold weather as mentioned above

Hi VRS 2007, i'm in torquay. Good to hear that these abs/traction lights are probably weather related! I've got to get the left rear door leak sorted so it's going in to skoda anyway. It needs a service at the end of january, so this will be a chance to find out if murrays are any good or not...

1) Turn the key to "on".

2) Wait for a bit for the lights to go out.

3) Turn the key to start the engine.

- At this point, the ABS and TC lights come on for about a second or two.

It happens on cold or wet starts, first thing in the morning or evening. At other times it seems fine.

My traction lights are staying on permanently in this weather, could it be a warning about disc thickness ?

I'm totally amazed how quickly the car will break traction, I've got a PD160 intake fitted and a resistor tuning box - the wheels spin from just over 1k rpm in 3rd !

If you can break traction that easily, I'd be looking to get some better tyres :D

There isn't a warning for brake disc thickness only brake pad wear, which isn't used on the Fabia anyway.

Exactly the same for me mate... Don't think it's anything to be concerned about.

Yep joining the club here. Same occurrences in same circumstances. Did it on my previous car (different make) as well.

my lights are now on my dash, came on when driving in the rain on sat night then went off, was fine yesterday until i left the show and came back on, now they are on all the time.

just had my hub and carrier changed on friday and the sensor was a bugger to get out and it got cracked so i'm putting the fault down to this sensor, no big deal.

my question is, how much is a new sensor?
