Removing door card

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm stuck with figuring out the easiest way to pop the rear door card off. Managed to get everything else.

Please help!

What part are you struggling with?

Thanks for responding Lummox. I have removed the door handle/armrest and can't get the card off to get between the carrier. The link guide is very useful thanks but does not go into details to removing the door trim/card.

I'm guessing it's help by clips. Do I run flat screw driver around it?

Thanks

Its only on poppers, just needs a good tug.

Thanks again

Oooh, so tempting to bring in the misquote engine. She's not been fired up for some time. :D

Rear door card. - Push in by handle and pull back clip on window handle base, then it should pull off. Undo top half of handle and undo 2 philips screws buried deep inside. Remove the door speaker cover gently (tweeter behind it) and undo small torx bolt there. Then, give it a good tug, then, go back to the car :D and give the door card a good tug. Once the bottom half is unpopped, you normally lift it in an upward motion. For me I also unscrew the door lock kn0b as mine are aftermarket ones and jam a little.

Once off, you can also unclip the door handle wire from the mechanism - easy to clip in and out. :) Then, remove all the poppers left in the door and refit them into the doorcard before putting back on. :)

Thanks devonutopia.

One thing I've noticed on my car compared to SWMBO's is that mine has little pockets at the bottom of the rear doors, which aid removal immeasurably! My wife's car doesn't have them. so I can imagine it would be one hell of a job getting sufficient purchase on them to pull them off if I ever needed to... :smirk: I suspect hooking something round behind the edge of the door card and then pulling would be best - I don't think l trying to lever it off will work well, owing to the number of clips and how far you have to pull before they release.

A couple of other things: The clips break pretty easily (especially if you don't line them up correctly when putting the bits back together), but you can get them from a dealer for a few pence each; also, you need to make sure you don't lose the little neoprene washer, as thisis the only thing keeping water from trickling in around the holes!

I tried to remove all my door cards to seal against the usual water leaks.I got on fine until, having popped the buttons I came to the last part of lifting up the card.I couldn't budge any of them without risking smashing them.I even drove to a local body shop and the guy there couldn't lift them off.

I managed to carry out the sealing by prising the cards back as far as I could from the bottom, unbolting and removing the carrier plate and applying a good covering of Tiger Seal.

Did all four doors and water leak totally cured.

Usually a long screw driver or prybar upwards onto the under side of the top fixing works just fine. Start at the front and work backwards.

Thanks for the advice,I'm hoping I don't have to the remove the cards again having sealed the water leaks.I hope I don't get a fault requiring the carrier plates removal after the liberal application of tiger Seal!!
