turbo gone! 23000 mile

Featured Replies

   Fabia Vrs

the title tells you what i'm on about....plus the garage said i've got 10 fault codes comin up when they plug the computer in... i thought that many things would show up if a major part like the turbo packs in but the cars been with them since monday and still no feedback...i can't help but feel i'm getting taken for a ride.

Anyone else had failure like this at such low mileage? its not even 3 years old yet. which is actually quite good cause it means its under warrenty:(

Not on a Skoda but my Scooby lost it's big end with 32K on the clock.

At least it's going to be fixed on warrenty :)

But how long will it take

I've replaced turbos at below 10k before now.

VW have a real issue with them at the moment.

my dealer said people seem to be REALLY thrashing their vrs vehicles at the moment!

What happens when your turbo goes? Is the car still drivable or does it disable the drive?

Sure hope mine doesnt go during the course of ownership... I dont rag it that hard either...max I've taken it is 4k rpm in 3rd and 4th...

Depends on how it goes.

Can range from a simple lack of power, to a whole load of smoke and a knacered engine.

Chap at work managed 53k out of his Audi A4!

Will my 3yr old Vrs which I have just bought be covered by warranty( 2 years ).

The turbo went on my mum's 1.4PD Polo after about 2k, if it's any consolation...

when the turbo went the car lost drive completely. and failed to start again. the RAC bloke showed me what was happening. he disconnected the air pipe from the airbox to the engine and sprayed some wd40 down the pipe. when i tried to turn the engine over... the turbo was spitting all the wd40 back the way instead of sooking the air in ...if ye catch my drift.

i still hven't got the car back and i won't until after the weekend... its been in since monday and thats a week of my home time wasted cause i can't rely on a car and i'm getting quickly fed up of F^%$IN !!!!!! buses. they don't have any cortesy cars either. and to add to it, the service manager has not phoned me once in the whole time its been in. i've had to phone him twice a day so far to find out whats goin on and i don't get much of an explaination. today they were apprently changing sensors. i told him that i'm expecting a phone call at the end of today regardless. i can't help but think i'm getting shafted!!!!!!! hold on...........................................................he just phoned me while writing this message:D result.......................he says that the car is ready for the new parts and that they've changed sensors. he's awaiting arrival of a new intercooler and turbo and says that they've done as much as they can till they get the new parts which will be monday most likely!:(

carless for my last weekend before going offshore!GREAT:mad:

i'm not sure mate. unless you have an extended warrenty?

I got the usual Skoda 12 month warranty plus an extra 12 months in the deal.

Depends on how it goes.

With all sorts of scenarios in between

None are cheap if no warranty either. Seems low miles at 23 k though.

hhmmm.. any Idea why there can be so many different stories lummox? I ran mine to 80k with no turbo problems at all, and 50k of that had the cheap resistor mod on, so was throwing extra fuel in all the time.... I still had no problems with the turbo....

can it be to do with people turning them off after a big thrash, and not letting the turbo cool? wrong grade of oil? hhmmm some real low miles for blown turbos.... thought they were good for 150k nowadays!! (I'll be doing 100k in the fiat!! hope it hangs together! ;) )

The first turbo on my Fabia went at 10K!

The first turbo on my Fabia went at 10K!

lol.. yeah, but I've seen you drive ;)

What turbo is in the the fabia vrs?

I always get scared about blowing mine in the octavia!

Whats the best way to keep the turbo healthy?

KKK turbo in Fabia vRS.

Easy way to keep it healthy:

1. Do your servicing on time

2. Be relatively gentle until the engine is warmed up

3. If caning it, let the engine idle for a bit before shutting off.

Point 3 is a little harder when doing motorway driving but you can ease off a bit before pulling into the services :)

If remapped, dont' go absolute maximum on the boost pressure, stay a bit below and it will last a LOT longer.

Cool, I do all of them. Was even thinking about changing the oil every 5k instead of 10k.

I normally let the engine idle for 1-2 minutes after driving and try to stay low on boost for the last 10 minutes of the trip!

Also wait for the coolant to get up to 90c and 5+ minutes of driving.

I've got a new job which means I'll be using the train alot so my vRS will be getting a lot more short trips :(

If you stay on low(ish) boost you should be fine just turning it off after a bit, to be fair, but yeah it ought to live nicely.

If you do a lot of short trips, the occational long blat / enjoyable drive will keep the car in a good shape :D

OH.... If I have to :(:D

I've found an awesome road to do "laps" on around here. There's a bridge and it's easy to get plenty of air (I try not too, dying isn't too cool) and lotsa really nice corners.

Do turbos really need to "cool down" these days? I used to religiously run the Scooby down after a high speed blat but since turning to diesel, I've not bothered, and I rarely bother warming the car up either (I live 2 minutes from the A303!). Haven't managed to kill a turbo yet :o

Chris

Mine went at 35k regular as clockwork ;), when the car gets to around 50ish il be swaping the turbo for either the garret 1749vb or a hybrid on some kind :D Will have saved up by then you see.

Bring on 50k

not had any issues with my turbo , now on 50k , from the sig below you can see its been abused , but by the same token the oil has been changed almost every 2.5k , so that must of helped

got a spare in the shed anyway
