Buffeting Rear Window

Featured Replies

At the weekend I was in the car and my sister was sitting in the rear passenger side seat. She opened the window and the next thing this really loud buffeting noise started. It actually got so painful to everyone's ears in the car that she had to close the window. Has anybody else noticed this???

Has anybody else noticed this???

What causes it? I've never noticed it in any other cars I've driven.

Hi

I get the same problem in my Ford Focus when my Son opens the rear window. I believe the noise comes from that the wind blows in but then tries blowing out of the same window, the way to get rid of the noise it to open the Front window opposite to the window thats open in the back, i.e. if it's the rear Near Side Window that's been opened, you need to open the Front Off Side Window slightly ( even a 1 cm Gap will do it) & you'll find the sound will stop completely.

Hope that helps

Cheers

wouldnt have anything to do with air flow would it? try driving in a vacuum chamber. The noise will stop.

Just open the driver's window a sliver. Usually sorts it. You might be able to use wind deflectors to stop it, but I'm not sure. Equalising the pressure you does it (i.e open a window at opposite corner of the car)

It's an occurance similar to cavitation.

Do a google on it. Loads of cars do it especially those with sunroofs.

normal yet annoying
