Lowering springs Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

There are squillions of posts/threads on the subject of lowering, but try as I might I can't seem to find a definitive answer to my question; which is:

I'd like to lower 25mm with springs of a similar stiffness to those fitted as original equipment on the Fabia vRS: where can I get these, and what is a ball park price?

I'm well aware of the high acclaim for Eibachs but the combination of the 25% increase in stiffness and the state of the roads round our way make them a non-starter.

Incidentally, am I missing something and there's a good technical reason why the stiffness has to increase if there is a reduction in length of the spring? Can't really believe there is such a relationship but will appreciate your input.

Thanks, in advance.

you will be hard pushed to find 25mm springs with standard stiffness ,they will probably go through the whole shocker travel if you hit a large bump , hence the reason for uprated spring stiffness to go with the 25mm lowering

the increase in stiffness due to a shorter spring, is indeed because of that...a shorter spring!

a short spring means less coils, which leads to a lower amount of travel in the suspension, and less "cushion."

I don't think I have worded it easily, but I cant think of another way to put it...without confusing myself!!

I think this is the reason anyways...it makes sense in my head!!

eibachs are probably about the best springs you can buy so if you are worried about ride quality suffering you may as well leave it as it is

I found the ride of the Eibachs better than the original springs as they bottomed out too easily and are far too soft. The ride quality of the eibachs is not bone shaking and rides well over bumpy roads.

true, but eibach springs are wound progressively - they're more comfortable than standard at slower speeds and firmer when pressing on. at least that's what i've found with my focus

:)

I have to agree with Eibachs being one of the best

But then as has been said , if you are worried about them , then it may be best to leave as standard

But then mix then with FSD`s and it could be quite smooth

Your comment that the Eibachs ride well over bumpy roads is interesting and I might just give them a try. They're not too expensive and I can always resort to the originals if things don't work out.

Thanks to all who responded.

Whereabouts are you ming?

Have you tried Eibach springs? They're very similiar to the standard stiffness, in terms of ride quality, and soak up bumps well.

Plus adding a superb feel.

I found anyway, using standard alloys.

Hi there,

Just outside Glasgow.

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

No, as I said in my original post, I haven't, nor did I intend to, but after reading so many positive comments re-Eibachs I've decided to give them a try. I've already mentioned this in a subsequent post BTW.

Yesterday, I got an excellent deal on a pristine, low mileage, used set of Pro-Kit, so I'm over the first hurdle.

I'll need to check with the dealer however, as I've got almost 6 months remaining on the warranty.

I'd be a wee bit disappointed though if I have to postpone fitting till then but, as I've said, it was an excellent deal which I didn't want to miss out on.

Sounds good - where they are specific set for the Fabia vRS you picked up?

Steve

The dealer should not mind the eibachs being fitted, as my local dealer (Rainworth Skoda)fitted mine for me no problems and still honoured any warranty issues i had:thumbup:

Eibach design their springs to work in conjunction with standard parts and even standard shocks to an extent.

Yep, they sure are - original invoice and advice note still in the box.

The guy fitted them earlier this year and has now replaced them with coilovers. Just my luck, I was in the right place at the right time.

I'm looking at some Eibach springs (Eibach Pro-Kit performance spring kit for Skoda Fabia VRS 1.9 TDI (MY 09/03 >)) on ebay but the ad says that it drops the car by 30mm. IIRC i read on here that you should only drop it by 25mm to protect the sump.

Is that right?

The stated drop in ride height does seem to differ, depending on where you look, but those are the correct ones. I think the confusion comes from the vRS already sitting lower than the rest of the Fabia range.

The Eibachs are being fitted this Friday. Fingers crossed I can live with the ride quality. I'll just have to if I'm to achieve the objective mentioned below.

I've also managed to get a set of 16" mk1 Octy vRS alloys which I'll be refurbishing and fitting, thereafter.

When complete the Furby will then look similar to Hellfire's Fabia vRS (see members' cars) that being the objective from the outset.

Pics will follow in due course.

Hi

I've been looking at Eibach shocks and springs as well for my Fab vRS, I contacted them directly and have been told the springs will be 25% uprated on the standard spring and will lower the car 25mm front and rear. The cost of this kit is

Don't forget to ask whoever fits the springs to reduce the size of the bump stops - see this Guide:

do you need the dampers ,or can you get away with just the springs?

I have just got the springs and they work fine. I will be upgrading to a set of Koni FSD's when mine wear out.
