Scouting about on my hols

Featured Replies

Well, just come back from my hols and I have a few pics and a summery of how I found my new Scout.

First impressions on having it delivered to the office was that everyone gathered around and said 'wow, that is really nice! What is it!' and were surprised at the badge. Second surprise was how imposing it looked compared to standard vehicles.

After 500 miles I loved it more that I thought I would. It has some really thoughtful features such as the rear bag hooks, the rear tray behind the passengers heads, the puddle lamps on the mirrors, a great audio system and all sorts of other little 'delight' moments that make it a treat to get in. As did the 45.3mpg.

The removable towabar was in place and it was time for hols., so I hitched up my Conway Cruiser, put two cycles and two kayaks on the roof and headed off to Freshwater East, 280 miles away.

The journey there was uneventful - that is I set the cruise control at 60mph and slipped it in and out of 5th & 6th (resetting it obviously) and it pulled like a train, although mpg was down to 35 - not surprising given what it was attempting to pull thought the air on it's roof!

As I am lazy, I tested out the 4x4 by delivering my kayaks directly on o the beach - the 4x4 being totally unobtrusive but very obviously there as it never lost footing, despite the sand up to the slipway being like pepper for 20 or 30 feet and really slowing the car down.

In fact, I tried all the roads that said 'Unsuitable for Motor vehicles' and it never even scrabbled for grip, it just kept solidly on, giving you incredible faith it it's ability.

Just two things marred the journey. One is that I should have gone for steering wheel controls - in fact they should be standard on a Skoda costing this much, and the other is the a rear seat squab has come lose.

My photo's are here Hannahpip - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting if a mod can contact me I will let you know the password and you can show me how to upload them, as all I am getting is red squares!

Sounds brill

You should have an at the beginning (before the http etc) and then a at the end.

Re - the red squares - put more ice in :D

In Photobucket if you select the IMG option it will 'say' "copied".

A quick paste in the Brisky editor - then a 'preview changes' will tell you if you are doing it right.

Excellent pictures, Skoda should get you to do their Scout marketing!

Ahh yes, that's better!

Brill - good job it did too pulling that little lot about.

great pictures there... like the one down the beach.. seems to impose itself nicely... ;)

I must say I was mightily impressed with the one I had as a courtesy car.

Almost to the point of buying one.

( But even someone as frivolous as me baulked at the thought of spending nearly 35K on cars in the space of a month....maybe next year,)

That looks great that - best colour I've seen yet too.

By the way - Do you know what towbar you have fitted, if so is it the ZGB1Z3092155?

W.

Don't worry I've just made an enquiry -

Looks a nice outfit

Glad you are enjoying it, Just couldn't afford one when I changed my Oct'y about 6 weeks ago.

Just got back from my hol's, managed 25mpg over 650miles towing so well happy.

My Oct'y 2.0tdi used to get 29mpg towing 1120kg.

It is Mist Grey I think they call it.

Oh, and, er yow! Dude! Respek back man!

Whereabouts do you live, Captain Kremen, as apart from mine and the one I test drove I haven't seen another Octavia Scout anywhere including driving to Bavaria and back. Rare as hen's teeth, I'd say. Perhaps we should form a rare breeds club?

Thx for the reply! I test drove the Scout/RS this weekend and I must say that I am a Scout man :)

I think I finally found the car I want o buy :)

Now, I'm looking at options. Captain, give us some interior pics. I'm thinking of going leather + navi in my scout

I'll snap some interior shots soon. Not sure leather is an option - never looked as I don't like leather interior. I didn't go for sat nav as my smart phone has a very competent Tom Tom on it & I couldn't justify the
