Black soot/smoke????

Featured Replies

Hi,

Fabia vRS 05 22k with Angel Remap.

In the past couple of weeks it has started chucking out loads of black smoke. I am forever cleaning the rear of the car to get rid of the black soot.

There are no warning lights on the dash so I dont think its the EGR valve.

I think one of the hoses may have hole in it or come away slighty, although there doesnt seem to but a distinct lack of power, which confuses me because all the other threads in relation to this problem notice a lack of power.

Anyone any ideas?????????????????

I think a bit more black smoke is normal.

Try fitting an aftermarket panel filter and PD160 intake and giving it a dose of millers sport 4.

Its got a PD160 airintake. Standard panel filter though, will a green air filter make that much difference?

Might do matey worth a shot

It's got warmer. It will smoke more.

But is anyone else experiencing the same thing? Ive got black a car and it coats the rear of the car in a dull black soot after a couple of days. I hate to think what it looks like on a yellow or silver car.

MAF might be damaged, or slight boost leak perhaps - mine smoked like b*ggery with a slight boost leak

Have a look at Jason's car

You should always have a little more smoke on a remapped diesel!

When i had my dragon tunning box (on full power) it chucked out alot of black smoke but when i changed the standard filter (it was filthy after 30k) to a green cotton filter it made a noticable difference, how old is your filter? If its done more than 20k i would recommend you changing it!

I was under the impression a remap wouldn't chuck out as much smoke as a tunning box cause a tunning box only overfuels whereas a remap changes the boost and few other things is this not true?

Only askin cause i've just sold my tunning box and im planning to get a remap when my pd160 intakes arrives!!

Oi! ;) Mine may smoke when not supplied with enough air, but the actual back end never gets coated in it - AT ALL. This is basically due to my exhaust being SO free-flowing that the soot comes out the back at such speed, it never gets caught in the backdraft that follows a fabia.....

Or, maybe, that he's so busy injuring the poor beast it never gets on the road :D

Defo recommend some Millers Sport 4 though to help alleviate the problem - although if it is something more than just the weather being warmer then it does need seeing to.

My standard air filter was thoroughly grey at 16k so it got lobbed - 40k is way way too long.

Took the car to Skoda Manchester yesterday.

Today a couple of turbo pipes and the EGR valve are being replaced. So fingers crossed that should solve the problem.

Yes. It's got warmer. If all you worried about is what it looks like then you must be easily pleased.

The car must have thrown up a few codes for the EGR to need replacing.

Yeah, they will still smoke more. Depends on the map, the environment and as said other mods.

Now got green panel filter and pd160 air intake installed but i am still noticing smoke out of the back as standard, when i floor it at 1500 rpm and the turbo kicks in mainly, will this increase by much when i get a remap the tuner said i wont notice any difference!!! Its not a generic remap as he's got a rolling road and he's going to play about with the map to get the best results! He's expecting 175bhp and 300 ft ibs torque does this sound ok?

A bit yeah, as I said the hotter weather is a lot down to this.

The figures sound a little optimistic to me. Only a bit though ;)

you can get those figures yes, but that's at pretty high boost for the std turbo to take. Not impossible though :)

Yes! Very possible! Jabba gave me 174bhp and 309lb/ft with a pd160 & green panel filter - there was more but I asked them to ensure it wasn't smokey (was original quite smokey on the OEM map).

First impressions - smoother through the rev range on part throttles (I've lost the dreaded stutter! Which was exaggerated by the PD160) 50%+ throttle OMG  that's quick! Amazingly, because of the smoothness of the remap the standard 205/45 tyres can handle the torque very well in 3rd gear.

To compare before and after I would say that 6th gear 60-80 is about the same time as 4th gear 60-80 prior to remap! Plus I'm getting 60mpg+ now :)

On Jabbas rollers

Yes, I agree, I'm taking their figures with a pinch-of-salt...but it's how it now drives that matters

And how it pulls up Clay Hill @ Oulton Park :)

Going to get the remap done in next few days:D , hopefully i'll notice the difference and i wont have a black cloud following me everywere i go:rolleyes:

How much torque can the standard clutch take? I've been told upto 320 ft ibs is this true? I dont wont my clutch going pop 5 minutes after the remap!

Some would tell you don't worry, others would say it's an issue.

I would say it can be an issue if you let it be.

A remap will reduce the life of your clutch (This should be a given, you re running a lot more power than specced through it) and you can also damage your flywheel. You need to drive accordingly, not boot it in a high gear and make sure you try not to stress the drivetrain too much. If you feel a harsh vibration under acceleration then that will be the flywheel moaning and you need to back off a bit.

It's at least

Thanks for the advice:thumbup:

I try to get the revs past 2k before i floor it in 4th, 5th & 6th anyway, so i wont have to change my driving style to much;)

I do like floor it in 2nd & 3rd at 1500 rpm tho, to feel the power of torque:D Does this shorten the life of the clutch and can i still do this with a remap? (without worrying about the clutch)

Well,

Car still stills smokes when the turbo kicks in, even skoda have apparantly changed the EGR valve and some turbo pipes. And once again i'll be back to washing my car once a week so it doesnt look like a chimney sweeps car.

This problem is really hacking me off. I have had a quick look at some of the pipes and some of look like they have moved for where they used to sit already.

The bloke at Skoda service Manchester has recommended running Shell V power diesel through it to see that cures the problem.

What fuel do you run? Mine smokes really bad on supermarket or standard fuel, but i get very little using BP Ultimate. So i get no soot matks on the back
