Engine Shakes in Neutral but when A/C is turned on it stops!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Bought myself a Fabia Vrs has the pocket rocket for about a month! gotta say i've never really been attached to my previous cars until now!!

One slight thing that i just wanna get an opinion on:

The cars a 53 plate, and rolling on 80k

When the cars at a stand still and in neutral the engine shakes and gives the car a slight shake in turn, i've just had it serviced by an ex VW mech who said it could be an injector that will eventually need replacing?

The funny thing is when i turn on the AC in the car the shake stops! the mechanic also found the same thing when he had my car in for servicing!

I was wondering if anyone else might have had this extremely random issue?

Any suggestions or opinions are welcomed!!

what happens when you put the air-con is , you put a load on the engine , therefore the engine management will compensate for this load with different fuel settings so it may run smoother , the mech might be right about the injector , but they are very expensive to replace (

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but i have noticed in the last couple of weeks a definite rattle/knocking at tick over speeds on the only belt you can easily see when looking at the engine. Its on the front left just below the engine cover and above the drivers headlight.

What is this belt?????

Matt

I have noticed this on my VRS SE is it worth taking it back to the dealer? I'm sure there's a thread on here about a guy that had his at the dealer for months trying to sort out.

i have a look and cant find any threads, doesn't mean its not out there.

probably worth a trip, do you have any idea what the belt is???

Matt

Alternator belt, posted other night, headlight back cover had come adrift and was rubbing on the belt, worth checking it out (this on my SE)

Thanks fella will have a look,

no probs matt, mines ok it has only marked the belt, but it was making a noise

Mine sometimes judders, It was improved by changing the injector values at idle.

I also increased the idle and this too has helped the rough idle.

I Put the dodgy idle down to the egr system and the ecu making changes.

With the car idling and juddering if you removed the vac pipe that goes to the egr the car instantly stops juddering. Put the pipe back on and after a few seconds the car is back to juddering.

Please dont try this though as it will through up some fault codes which may cause confusion for your dealers.

Yep, that will be me then.

The jury is out, but testing it the other night, there seemed to be an improvement. In town shopping on Saturday (rather than country roads) will be the telling factor. Barkers are going to give me my first service for free (as I did not reject) and I have had a letter from Skoda today giving me 50% off any service in the future - so will use it on the second or third. If it is (nearly) mended I will be pleased that at least it is now OK as there was not a comparable car to buy if I had rejected it. What ever the technicians did is what they used to cure the car they had back at the Skoda base. Just for those that may have the same problem, none of the following helped: the stutter fix, changing to stiffer (I think) engine mountings or new injectors.

BTW, turning on the air con used to help mine. The garage changed various loadings and fuel flow rates etc but it was little help.

Same thing happens on mine on occasion, although I found switching from Tesco to Sainsburys fuel (odd, I know) and sticking some Millers in the tank also helped.

i have a hellish vibration at idle too:D

Best get that sorted buddy, Trip to the dealers

i don't think they would fix it mate, might even charge me for there time looking;)

All these problems with the "modern" euro 4 engine

only shudder i get is when my dogbone mount gets worn, 100k and it needs replacement number 4

replaced my dogbone mount at 4k,might have somthing to do with the judder;)
