Fabia possible Warranty Claim

Featured Replies

Had my 2nd year service on my Fabia TDI done by Star Performance is Fife yesterday, excellent service as always.

Couple of points mentioned were that the rear discs were corroded and could do with replacement and also a whine from the gearbox.

Now given that the car is only 2 years old and has only done 12k miles I think these 2 issues should not be up to me to sort. I've had other makes of car that have been older and higher milage without these problems.

Should I contact me dealer about claiming on the warranty?

Discs, no. 12k in two years is probably why they are rusty (Apart from thr fact they dont do a lot and are a little prone to rust anyway), but I would consider that to be wear and tear.

The gearbox, I would say get it checked out.

I fully support Decron's view; definitely get the gearbox checked at your dealer.

Believe me, you are not alone with this issue. I and others in the forum with similar age vRS's have gearboxes that whine, so pursue it - the more who do so the better our chances of convincing Skoda UK to get the issue resolved for us all.

Good luck and please keep us informed of your progress.

if you only do 6k a year, why the derv anyway?

I agree about the gearbox, but I would also mention the discs too. I can see them just saying it's fair wear and tear, but if you don't ask at all then it's a definite no :D

Just out of interest, my gearbox has a whine, but its only at something like 2000rpm in 2nd. Not enough to bother me, but if i can get a new gearbox out of it....

Because they don't do a petrol VRS?

Fair play with that one:rofl:

yeh, well it's true!:)

I don't do that many miles but the Fabia VRS still ticked the practical / exciting boxes like no other car.

thanks for the replies guys. will phone my dealer tomorrow on both counts, I can't personally hear the gearbox so i'll have to give star a quick call back to find out what speeds/gears etc they were hearing the whining.

will keep you's updated in due course.

well that's my car now booked in next friday for 3 possible warranty items

i. Whining Gearbox

ii. Excessive (for a 2 year old) corroded rear discs

iii. Rumbling from passenger side front wheel, could be bearing thats shot?

will report what they say.

I dont do many miles either but loved the VRS so I bought one.

50mpg is still 50mpg whether you do 6k a year or 60k!

yes, but you've got to factor in the extra cost to purchase diesel over petrol and the fact that on models where a petrol / diesel variant is offered the diesel is often more expensive.

However, I agree (as you'll see above) and without a petrol vrs the diesel made sense! I could have opted for the 'faster' 2litre petrol i guess.

Well just got car back from the dealer, after booking it it for the checks (got a roomster 1 courtesy car which I wasn't too keen on).

Well they said that the gearbox was fine and they couldn't hear anything abnormal, they admitted the discs were quite corroded but wouldn't recommend replacement for a while yet and the brake test come out ok, surfaces fine and plenty life in the pads. As for the suspect wheel bearing they said the rumble was probably normal given the bigger wheels/tyres.

So 1 year of warranty left so will see what happens over the coming months!

He's only been out twice and wanted maximum value from a tank :P
