Tomorrow I'm buying a brand new octavia rs ... but confused

Featured Replies

First time i saw the bleu octavia rs at the gallery i fell in love with the car :)

but after reading the posts in this forum i have to say that i am confused

My major concern is the quality problem (some say rattles, creaks some kind of strang noises coming from octavia's)

Do octavia rs drivers complain about these problems ???

If it is so tomorrow i will buy a golf gt or gti instead of rs

have you checked on a vw forum for issues with the Golf's, I think all cars have problems to some degree.

I've had VWs and Audis in the past and they all have minor niggles like the odd rattle. Usually easily sorted. I'd say the build quality is no worse than VW or Audi...

We have a new vRS and it's rattle/creak/squeak free.

People are more likely to come onto a forum to complain about their cars if there is a problem. People don't generally go out of thier way to say their car is fine do they?

I sold my 05' passat fsi highline for the love of tfsi and as you can guess i don't want to make a wrong decision

Anyway thanks for your replies you have calmed me down :)

Waiting for other rs drivers opinion

You couldn't have phrased that better!

I too had the same mental discussion of Golf GTi vs VRS and have no regrets about my decision to go with the VRS. The Golf GT will never be the the car for me as its too far behind the GTi and VRS on power so it was removed from the equation very quickly and very easily!

My VRS is fine. There was a creak in the suspension but now its done 1300miles its gone away. Build quality is fine. Some of the plastics aren't upto VW or Audi standards of quality but then its his sort of thing that makes the cars price tag lower! It certainly does not feel like a compromise though.

Thanks for your reply too

I am going to the dealer tomorrow ;)

Some might say I make a habit of taking Skoda's apart :P

Well I've taken a few VW's and the odd Audi apart too and in my humble opinion they all have pro's and con's.

The Audi's are pretty well screwed together. I don't think VW is any better put together than the current Skoda offerings.

*usually* easily sorted - not always though

I've had my TFSI for 3 months now and about 2000 miles. I had one bad rattle that took me a while to find. It was the cover for the third brake light. I've stuck a little bit of tape on it for now and that's solved it.

I had a small disagreement with the dealer over a missing wheel nut but other than that the car hasn't missed a beat.

TFSI really likes Tesco 99RON super.

My only niggle (and it is a niggle) is that the stereo is a bit crap. 6 disk changer is good but it doesn't play MP3s. The MP3 player only plays MP3s not WMAs and generally it sounds a bit crap. Steering wheel mounted controls would have been good too.

Still a great car though.

I've read all of the reviews and watched all the videos ;)

This was a tough decision in fact but i didn't like the looks of the gti and cupra r, and the new type-r suspension was too hard for everyday usage  (also i'm not kinda revving man  takes too much effort :P)

i liked the golf gti but too small and the cupra was ugly having a family made the vrs the most sensible chioce its fast and pratical

I do a lot more rattle repairs under warranty for VW than I ever did for Skoda.

Also I dont agree with the Cupra being ugly, there is a white one down the road from me and it looks ace.

I think the Leon is by far the best looking of the three VAG versions , but the interior put me off - too much cheap looking plastic

imo it is a bug ..... a yellow bug

anyway i'd prefer my blue vrs :)

I've driven my octavia rs for 1200 miles now and wow ....

It sounds like a rally car when you're pushing hard :)

No rattles up to now and prey to God there won't be ever

It handles like a dream even at silly 210km/h speeds :)

It made 255 km/hr on the tachometer

Look at golf gti videos you will see that golf stops accelarating at 210 km/h and comes to 235 km/h so hard so slowly....

This is where the rs action begins .... it goes from 210 to 240 easily .... and from 240 to 255 just like the golf gti accelerating from 210 to 240

....

The car is so much comfortable that i sometimes forget if i'm driving in my 2005 passat or rs :)

So far i'm so happy with my brand new car

i had a rattle in my car which i mentioned on here, i also mentioned that the rattle was eventually fixed. every car has a niggle with it and most are easily solved. i dont regret getting mine, certainly made new friends on here and everyone here is so helpful ;)

the new seats look to boring and dull, the old shape leon cupra was a very nice looking car.
