Audi A3 model to duck London congestion charge?

Featured Replies

According to What Car?, there's a new model of the Audi A3 1.9 TDI which has emissions of 119g/km. (By longer gearing, different tyres etc.)

This apparently gets

There will be so many cars ducking below the magic 120 mark that London will end up like it was before the C-charge was introduced :thumbdwn:

how does the Co2 affect the congestion of the roads? lol

It doesn't, it's just an initiative off the back of the scheme to try and improve the air quality in London. And "London Congestion and Emission Reduction Encouragement Scheme" is a bit of a mouthful...

It won't of course. In fact it will make things worse. Many of the City people will buy one as a second car just to use for going to work. Since cars make more pollution in the manufacture than they ever do in use, the whole scheme is counter-productive.

But this is politics - it's nothing to do with results.

I wonder if I could get

Maybe I could run it on one cylinder ? Take 7 spark plugs out, perhaps?

Most modern v8+ mercs n beemers usually drop to running 4 cyl when cruise control is on.. maybe get one of those ebay "power button" things and hook it up to half your spark plugs

Hell yeah!

I take it VWs 'Bluemotion' range of cars will be exempt from the C charge too , if this proposal comes in. If they start to charge to get into Edinburgh and Tyneside then I will seriously think about buying an exempt car.

Edinburgh's already rejected it, IIRC 75% of voters said they didn't want it - think it would take a bit to get it in there after that result!
