Faulty mirror adjustment kn0b?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Noticed this other day that when I adjust the wing mirror using the kn0b on the drivers door - when selecting the right left mirror - it adjusts but when selecting the left mirror - the both adjust at the same time!

Any ideas? Faulty kn0b / switch?

PS - Swear filter seams to have removed the word k n o b!

My wife's does what you describe (and is marked up as such); mine just operates one mirror or the other. I'd much rather have it like it is in my wife's car - it's quite handy, especially if you have two drivers that use the same car...

I dont think that's a faulty switch, it's a feature! :) Have you got the maxi-dot multi-function display? You can change the behaviour of the switch from there.

Ironically, on mine, I can't seem to get it to do what yours does when I want it to!!

Uhhh? I'm sure it never did that before! Each one used to operate independently!

Hence there are left, right, off and heater positions!

Unless it was broken and now it's fixed itself!

No - no maxidot in my vehicle!

If you have no maxidot, then I think this something you'll have to get your dealer to switch off. Neither behaviour is "broken", it's just an option that can be switched on or off.

Yep, its a feature, switch it to the left and adjust the left mirror to your liking, ignore the movement of the right mirror.

then switch to right and move it independantly to your liking.

now both are set, and if you switch the kn0b to the left then if a shorter or taller driver then adjusts they 'should' both move to the correct position by simply adjusting the left mirror.

Or, you could read your owners manual ;):P

No - if I switch it to the left and set that to my liking, then switch to the right and set that to my liking the left will move out of position as they both move!

As I said earlier - it didn't do that before - they both were independent of each other hence I thought I had a faulty kn0b!

No its always been like this, mine is the same. You need to adjust the drivers one before the passenger one. Octavias have been like this for more than 6 years. way back to the old mk1, it cannot be disabled. It even tells you this in the owners manual

From your original post...:

...when selecting the right left mirror...

..which doesn't make it easy to know which way you're talking! Perhaps it's the other way around. What if you set using the left one first, then the right?

They are supposed to both adjust; the idea being that another driver can quickly make up/down adjustments suitable for their height. Unless their head is mounted at a different angle to yours, they shouldn't need any different left/right adjustment! ;)

I'll check which way round it is later then - perhaps you lot are correct and I've never noticed it!!!

Just checked, page 65.

Left position, both mirrors.

Right position, right mirror.

Bloody clever these Skoda's

And its in the top 10 of most asked questions on this site.

OK - I stand corrected...they are working as designed - user error!

BUT in my defense m'lud, I've never needed to RTFM to adjust bloody wing mirrors before!! And they have never worked like in any previous car I've owned. The kn0b has positions L and R - you'd think they would do L & R - perhaps they should change the markings to R and L&R!

Fair comment :)

Surely you just adjust the mirrors by pressing the button on the seat?:D :D :D

Seriously though, It is a very useful function. The only thing I don't like is having to choose between heated mirrors or auto reverse kerb angle thingy. I wan't them both set to on:rolleyes:

Left position, both mirrors.

Right position, right mirror.

Not that clever :)

My book advises as above.

My button works as:

L = Left adjust

R = Both adjust

Auto reverse kerb angle thing? What's that then?

The buttons on the seat are the electrical memory recal ones. On Elec seats, you have 3 programable memories, for 3 drivers. Each one saves the miror settings also.

The auto reverse thingy, also part of the electric seats pack, angles the passenger side mirror downwards, towards the kerb, when reverse is selected, making it easier to part. It then puts it to normal position again when you hit 4 or 5 mph, or when you turn the engine off. It only works if the knoob is set to L (on rh drive cars), so not when set to heated mirrors, which annoys me a little.

Other than that, great fetures.
