Photograph's Of Water Coolant

It should be bright pink, simple really. :)

Yours looks like either the head gasket has gone, or more probably the oil cooler has failed. Possibly even a cracked block...!

I know it should be must mine is a dark liquid.

Theres something wrong then! Has the coolant been topped up with blue or green coolant? Can you see an oily film on the surface? See my (edited) post above. :)

Regardless, the system needs flushing and filling with G12+ as soon as the problem has been found!

It's been flushed ,had 2 new head gaskets, and new pipes bolts etc etc but dealer still can not find the fault.

The dealer is ****ting them selfs, they might have sold me a dodge car which might not be able to get fixed.

Sounds like the oil cooler to me, if its not that then the only thing it can be is a crack somewhere in the block or the head. Ouch.

Ah well, its in their interest to get it fixed.

However, it takes quite some flushing to get the oil out of the system... It may need several goes...

Good luck getting it fixed, fingers crossed for you. Damn good job you have warranty!

The car is almost 3 yrs old and but I got an extra 2 yrs warranty ( bought the car 4 weeks ago ). It's been a crazy month:rolleyes: .

Oil/water exchanger is most likely then. Keep it flushed as if that crud builds up you're stuffed pretty much.

Hope that is the problem, if not, it could be a haircrack in which case you'd need some more major engine work :(

It's pink. And it needs topping up, so thanks for making me have a look!

Are you losing oil (is level dropping) or is the level rising or stable? Are you getting water in the oil (put a match to the end of the dipstick- if it sputters then there is water in it)? Are you having to top up the water?

If no other signs, could be that they did not clean out the system properly - if drained the oil would stick to the surfaces unless a cleaner detergent was used before refilling. Stick with it. There's nothing like seeing a car through an "illness" to make you feel better about your relationship.

I hope the dealer has checked all this . I have had the car about 25 days and today is the fifth full day I have had the car to drive.

Some places can do a solvent flush of the engine cooling system, which they then flush through with water and eventually fill with coolant.

That might shift the oil better then just a water flush or even a detergent flush can.

Doesn't look right at all - should look like in Kerry's pictures above - get it back to the dealer!

I am going back next week for another flush out.

Have you considered rejecting the car? I think yours might possibly be the worst ownership experience of anyone on the site!!

believe you me I have asked for a swap/refund but the dealer said give us one last chance to fix it, they had the car 2 weeks trying to fix it but the problem is still here.

  • Author

I have just e mailed the dealer asking for a swap. I need a car to be safe and reliable plus after spending a lot of money on a 3 yr old car I am not happy.

The dealer has just got back in touch and they said lets see how it goes for another week then they will talk about swapping the car. They did tell me to wait a week yesterday when I picked up.

It's up to you, but I would be setting out my terms and not letting them dictate. You can always run it past CAB if you want the specifics, but they have had plenty of attempts to rectify the problem with no success.

Chris

It might be worth checking to see what coolant they have filled it with. Duckhams do a green coolant which is quite dark in colour.

I agree, a detergent flush folowed by lots of flushing with water, running it with some water in, flush again etc before a clean fill of G12+. Hopefully that will sort it.

I have been in touch with the dealer saying they can have the car back to fix the problem. Want this sorted out ASAP.

Mine's got pretty mucky, but I know the coolant in it is non-oil contaminated. I just think I need a new one. 6 years odd is probably enough, given what I've done with the car. I don't use pink coolant. Just normal stuff is added to mine - Think it's a bluey colour.

You should use G12+ tbh Jason. Is easy enough to empty and refil.

New bottles aren't to dear either mate, under £20 IIRC, and smarten the engine bay up no end. I replaced the one on my Polo cos it was faded, looked loads better. :)
