Insurance and exhausts...

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

What's the crack on telling the insurers about just the cat-back?

Was tempted with the miltek back end for some more noise.

It looks the same as oem and it doesn't give a performance increase without the hi-flow cat?

Well, its non standard so expect an increase.

Won't bother then, can't afford any more on the ol' insurance!

Just want more noise, cheap!

Get a drill out then and drill the backbox

Call and ask them how much it will be.

Im with Elephant and i think it was an extra £40 for a full system

i've looked into this!!! but my insurer (more than) won't do mods, but they have insured my car fully comp for £340 which is really cheap !!! cheapest quote i got from and insurer that would cover mods was over £500, the biggest pain in the *** is if i need to replace my oem one when it goes i could by a milltec e.t.c for the same price of a oem one, why can't they make a stelth cat back system that looks just like the oem one but sounds better !!!

With Swift insurance there is no extra charge for a stainless steel exhaust.

Damn, they won't insure me as I'm only 23 :(

i use to have a cherry bomb exhaust on my old old astra, insurance co didnt charge any extra, probably had something to do with the clueless way i described it as "a red exhaust pipe that sounded louder" :lol

Damn, they won't insure me as I'm only 23 :(

They were willing to insure me at 19 last year

Just want more noise, cheap!

:D

I'm tempted to change mine simply because it bugs me that the exhaust doesn't sit in the centre of the cut out in the bumper

I am with swift cover too so the exhaust doesnt matter, I have often wondered though if you just changed the back box then the manufacturers describe this bit as stainless steel (even though its only the tailpipes iirc) so essentially its a like for like replacement ???

cat/turbo back different matter though.

Be careful as assessors will be on the look out for anything non standard and not detailed on your insurance declaration.

Should they choose to be humpy, then they might not payout if you ever need them too!
