Smell in the car

Featured Replies

There is bad smell in my car. I think it is a problem with the air con. Does anyone know where the evapourator drain pipe exists the car? I think this maybe choked and causing the smell.

Cheers guys

Has the pollen filter been changed?

Are the carpets wet?

Hello. I don't know about cars. Just to say that my Skoda garage offer a service to overhaul the aircon (about £30-ish probably ex vat) and mine was fine afterwards last year. I mention this as the cost might not be that much more if you are buying replacement bits and bottles of fresheners off the shelf etc.

Regards - and welcome to Briskoda of course.

Are you sure it isn't the 'normal' smell which is perhaps best described as 'poo-y'?

I would first of all go for the pollen filter and whilst you got it off spray up a can of air con cleaner in there too.

comma air con cleaner £11.99 @ halfords, item code....... now that would be just plain sad;)

Yup, I've got one of them - is that the one you set off with the A/C running on recycle - then run away? If so does it, as warned, leave a coating of white dust over the inside of the car, obviously I have not used it yet (only had it for 2 years!). Also have one of the original ones from Halfords (before Comma marketed one) that came with a long tube to spray into the "access" hole in the plenum area (had that one for - oh - maybe 4 years!!)

Wrt "smell" - are you sure its not just "wind" commonly refered to as "man smell" !!!

As above could be fungus growing in the aircon system.

I have used the cannister ones in my car, which does eliminate most of the smell, but its still there a bit.

Thinking of getting mine done at VW, £99 for a regas, clean and new filter.
