I have a Roomster...

Featured Replies

.....for a few days anyway.

The Octy is in for yet another visit to fail to fix the creaking noises so I have a Roomster 2 with the 80bhp TDI engine.

So far it's been pleasant enough to drive. It's not super quick but more than adequate and it handles surprisingly well.

The interior seems ok and it's nice and practical but I just couldn't get past the looks if I were considering buying one.

I'll see how economical it is on a long run when I go home

Does it creak though Alex?

What are they going to do this time?

No creaks as yet , but no speed humps either.

As for what they are doing to the octavia - who knows.

It's gone to the Rugby branch of Brooklyn Skoda as they have a Master Technician there , and he's going to have a look and see if they can find what the problem is.

They don't have any specific action in mind I don't think which doesn't fill me with confidence. I'm half expecting them to phone up and say they couldn't hear anything wrong with it , at which point I'll visit my local vehicle graphics shop and get some appropriate banners made up to stick on the side.

My Fabia vRS is going in tomorrow for a few days....air con fans have all but packed up working and all 4 doors are going to be re-sealed.

I'm trying to get a Roomster or a Fabia as there is limited space for parking where I live.

Looking forward to driving one of them, be interesting as there is such a difference of opinion of them on here.

New Fabia would be good, I can get a feel for what the next vRS will be like to sit in.

Hope your noise gets sorted though!!! :)

So far I can't fault it from a drivers perspective.

It's nothing outstanding but perfectly competent.

It's just the looks I'm not keen on

I reckon that might just work!! :P

"After 11 visits , Skoda still can't fix this car"

Well , 55mpg on the way home from work compared to my usual 52 in the octavia.

Not bad , but not outstanding at all. Still it's only done 6k miles and it should loosen up quite a bit as time goes on.

It handles well enough and goes quite well though you do have to use nearly full throttle for quick starts.

Oh , and deathly silence as it goes over bumps.

Final thoughts on this , though it went back a while ago.

I really liked it by the end of my three days.

It was comfy inside , very well screwed together , and there was bags of room in the back.

The 80bhp 1.4 TDI engine was cracking and suited the car really well. It's not lighting fast but revved cleanly to the redline (nice noise) and never felt under powered. You could really enjoy driving it enthusiastically and not be doing stupid speeds , plus it handled far better than anything that tall should be able to.

The only thing that would put me off buying it would be the looks - I just can't get over the odd styling.

It makes it look better , but it's the disjointed styling between the front and back that's my real gripe with it.

At least there is a theory behind the Roomster's styling, see it latest opposition (new Kangoo) for a real dogs-dinner!:

,Aparently this is what Alonso will be driving next season!

"allo Mr Renault, kangoo please make me number one driver next season?.........kangoo?.....PLEEEEEEZE?"

My Octy 2 VRS PD170 has just come back after 8 days in the garage (2 visits to the dealer). They padded everything out and replaced many of the rear trims eventually the creeking noise was the passenger side gas strut. The P/N has been superceded so not sure if a known issue.
