Frikkin battery

Featured Replies

I have a ramdon problem. Only every once in a while.

The battery. Every so often I will come to the car in the morning, and the battery will be dead. I know this because all the door except the drivers will open the first time. I have only recently changed the battery for a brand new heavy duty one. All it needs is a second, attached to jump leads and it is fine for a couple of weeks. Car is due a service v soon, what should I be asking them to look at to get this problem sorted?

I know that The AA carry an electrical meter that is fitted with an 'amp clamp'. Without disturbing the battery terminals, one of these can determine what the flow of current is out of your battery, for instance, without the engine running. I'd say that has to be the starting point.

If your problem is not something simple like the boot light staying on, amongst other possibilities, I would include a fault in the alternator.

CC

Don't talk to me about octy flat batteries.Thankfully mine has been fine since replacement......so far, roll on winter:(

The car has a switch for the amp rather than a control feed from the stereo so that we can switch of the sub when wee man is in the back. Would a combination of the gf doing silly short journeys and leaving the amp on overnight be a factor? This wouldn't explain why the last battery died a death would it?

Amps use plenty of power so I think you might have found your problem. If I were you, I would use the head unit's switching wire and put a switch in it before the amp, that way you wouldn't be able to leave it on but you could easily turn it off when desired.

I've had a battery fail literally overnight - one day starts the car fine, the next day completely flat. Jump started and driven round for 30 minutes then engine stopped and the battery held charge for no more than 5 minutes.

Thats deff the problem.

I had a car that did the same to me - flat battery all the time. Spent loads of money on new batterys and tring to get it fixed. Turned out the light in the boot wouldnt turn of after closing it and so drained the battery.
