I think that the recently developed upgraded dogbone from Jabba is a great-looking classy piece of kit. Unfortunately, if I spend any more on the Fabia for the rest of the year SWMBO will not be too happy (roll on Xmas and I will be in touch with them for sure.....).

By doing a search, I found some nice articles on reinforcing all manner of engine mounts by using either a 3M window sealant or a 2-part polyurethane compound, which I thought I'd post for general interest's sake. Wonder if such an approach could help avoid the real trouble involved in replacing the console bushes with the Cupra one?

Console bushes aren't engine mounts - but they might be able to be filled to be stiffer like the proper cupra bushes, and with a bit of ingenuity you could probably do a good job with them still mounted. To press out the OEM console bushes and press in the Cupra ones, you need a special tool and assembly oil (gonna get the dealer to do mine)

Either shortening the post or adding in Shims (about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch) on the dogbone mount while using the stock rubber is said to work wonders. Or only using half a poly bush on the dogbone reduces the flex while limiting the amount of vibration that is passed into the chassis (especially important on the diesels)

Doh just realised you've got a fabia so this wouldn't apply to your dogbone since it is a different design ... sorry.

But for those with the Octavia ( mark 1 at least ) a better description follows.

You can either cut down the tube that the bushes slide onto on the left hand side part (kinda permanent) or place an extra shim in the stack. It causes the rubber bushes to be compressed more when at rest so they allow less movement when accelerating.

I've not done this yet (I believe all the bolts used to fit the dogbone are stretch bolts and I've yet to get the replacements - as a side note any idea where to get a list of or identify all the stretch bolts in the car(an octavia)) so I'm not sure it matters which side it goes on but since it is primarily the larger bush that control movement due to acceleration I'd put the shim after the lager bush ( to the right of the picture) and before the final plate. I also wonder if instead of a large shim you could just put 1/8 to 1/4 inch worth of washers on the long bolt before you do it all back up. - this would require that last plate (on the right) to be able to fit inside the middle metal piece.

I hope that all makes sense.
