Warranty / Poor Service by Skoda - incorrectly adjusted Brakes

Featured Replies

I bought and had my initial service on my current Ferby VRS by Wings of Peterborough.

It was serviced around 9.5k. (Its now 15K miles)

I complained about the brakes at the time of initial 10K service at Wings- in the words of the invoice it reported "no fault found.." after a Saturday service towards the end of May07.

This is regardless of the fact that the brakes were seeming to bind frequently, although I use the car almost daily although not so much on weekends.

However I now took the fault to Progress Bedford, (of course by now I know I do have a fault, it was squeeling coming back from the Isle of Wight and almost "clunking" too).

In their terms it was reported as "Found Handbrake had been over tightened". This is around the time I posted the thread on here related to the brake "wierdness", didn't seem to be performing that well..

So the evidence shows in paper that I had complained about a fault that was not rectified at the time.

As the car had only ever been worked on /delivered by Wings I am finding their response to be inadequate.

I contacted a "Tony" at Customer services UK, he looked into this ( I had to call him back after several days though) and it was reported they would do nothing, as its not warranty and Peterborough claimed they did no work on the brakes and would not be prepared to settle any money that had to be spent because of their act of ommision!

However, I'm £105.08 lighter (even though I was forced to have this work done at the Bedford franchise because of safety - and they seemed to have to charge me since I hadn't serviced the car there).

I am now very dissillusioned by Skoda in general - if not for the helpfulness of Progress Bedford in looking into the fault over a lunchtime at short notice.

They did not hesitate to locate the problem for me even though it was a little vague in my description.

The customer service and friendliness seemed second to none.

However, warranty aside (according to that there is no claim in regard to the adjustment of brakes) - the indication would be generally that the car was delivered faulty from day1 - albeit in no fashion that a customer would be able to detect ? :thumbdwn:

The car is relatively new being 15k miles down and 56 plate.

I'm very unimpressed with the response from Peterborough and I'd never go there again, certainly. (so there's 2 car services they lose at least, not to mention sales).

The services manager at Wings was not at all keen to discuss my complaint, wouldn't really listen to what I had to say and couldn't accept that on paper I already have indication of a faulty car setup from day1.

Is there no reasonable response from Skoda (UK) in relation to customer issues?

If I was asked, I certainly wouldn't recommend one now - EVEN though I like the car so much until recently.

Well I won't mind after the warranty period - Skoda UK might not be doing any work for me when this chance arises, if I can help it.

"is there no reasonable response from SUK in relation to customer issues?"

in short, NO.

When I had my vRS, I had it serviced (60k) at Carlisle, and it was a BIG service, (and expensive) where everything should have been checked. They ticked off the "suspension" box as everything fine, then 2,000 miles later the control arm bushes fell apart (so they must have been badly worn at the service, but it wasn't picked up) and they refused to do them under warrenty, even though the car WAS under warrenty, they claimed "wear and tear" I claimed an inadiquate inspection by the garage....

Skoda UK (SUK) basically told me to get stuffed. even though they are replacing control arm bushes on other members cars under warrenty at much higher mileages.

I left the brand.... AGAIN SKODA UK : read this, you know my case file, and you lost a customer due to inadiquate service... you are only going to loose more if you keep it up!

I very much doubt SCS are bothered, sadly.

They treat us with contempt and so do some dealerships.

Thats the nature of their business operations I'm afraid

Q3. I have had my car serviced or repaired and I do not believe the job has been done properly. The repairer is refusing to do anything about it, what are my rights?

Supply of Goods and Services legislation requires a trader to provide a service with reasonable care and skill. Any materials or parts supplied must be of satisfactory quality.

If a trader fails to observe these requirements the law treats the matter as breach of contract and, if necessary, a consumer can pursue the matter through the courts.

A local Citizens' Advice Bureau will be able to advise on the procedure to be pursued. The small claims procedure provides a straightforward way to bring a claim for up to £5000 to court without the need for a solicitor.

Well, there's one possibility for anyone who has a problem anyway.

thats all good, and I got onto the relitive people to persue Skoda through the small claims court, to get my money back, the trading standards bloke (or whatever goverment title he had!) told me I had a good case until I told him I was a driving instructor, then he said forget it... apparently the law treats private purcheses, and a "work/business" purchess, as two very different things :( I can't even get GAP insurance!
