Head Units and the CD changer

Featured Replies

Hey all, need some help:

I've had a Sub and amp set sitting in my bedroom for about a year now, i've been meaning to install them but as far as i'm aware the OEM CD player doesn't have the right connections for them.

Now i'm going to get a new H/U that has the connections so I can install the sub and amp, however I also have the OEM 6CD changer in the car and I was wondering if this will still work if I get a new H/U? Or did I tick that extra option for no apparent reason?

Will getting a new H/U make the CD changer obselete?

Cheers in Advance people :D

I would think that it would depend on the new head unit. If you have a Symphony head unit at the moment it does have lineout connection for your sub and amp, they're just not on phono connectors which is what I assume you're looking for. You can get an adaptor to plug into the back of the HU to give you phono plugs...

you can run the sub and amp off an inline convertor I think, however quality will suffer.

Ok i'm new to all this and haven't really looked into it yet, so what do you mean? lol.

Sorry for sounding dumb! It's just when I pulled out the Symphony H/U my mate said it didn't have the right connectors so the Sub and Amp couldn't be connected?

So is the best option for quality is to get a new H/U (Like Kenwood or something?) But then will the CD changer worki with it? Or does it only work with the OEM H/U?

This adaptor Blaupunkt preamp output lead

plugs into the back of the Symphony head unit, and gives you 2 sets of preouts and a remote, allowing you to connect an amp and keep your standard unit.

You sir, are a legend!

Thanks in advance! Now I don't need to spend £ on a new H/U, cheers mate!

Right, back to work i shall go, and by work I mean emailing Colleagues

Right, update, because i'm an impatient little mofo i've been trying to see if any local shops will sell this cable.

the closest i've come across is this:

AutoLeads Aux Input Adapter Blaupunkt ISO - PC7-108 from £7.99

Will this cable work? It appers to have 8 connectors when the one in the link provided above only has 6, so don't know if it will work?

Any help will be greatly appreciated :D

It doesn't look like it will, from my memory. Bluespot are really good though with next-day deliveries. Just phone them and ask. You'll have it in your impatient hands tomorrow mate...:)

They deliver on a Saturday? Cool :) Will input my order staright away, wasn't going to do it till tomorrow anyway lol :D

As I said, ring them and confirm first. That's what I did...

The one you linked to is an input and not output adaptor.

You ideally want the bluespot one as it will also switch the amp on for you.

Does connecting this disable the usual speaker channels, or does it allow you to run 2 Amps in addition to the current speakers?

(Apologies for the stupid question, but I went to all the hassle of installing a new HU to run my Sub and Amp, although it also runs my Ipod too).

You could run the amp with the speakers or you could disconnect whichever speakers you wanted to.

Be aware though that there is no point spending huge money on an amp and a sub if you are running them off the standard headunit.

Sound quality will probably be significiantly worse than when using an aftermarket headunit, and that cable is designed merely as a budget solution for those who wish to keep their CD changer or OEM headunit for their own personal reasons.
