Favorit ----> Urgent help please

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

one briskodian here who needs help, quickly

Favorit, M Reg, 136B with 50 thousand miles on.

Now looks like Head gasket has gone. Coolant is draining away instantly and when you open coolant container you can smell petrol. I.e. water is getting into engine.

am i right with this diagnosis?????

any help / past experiences / advice please guys ???????????????????

either head gasket or cracked head

Yep, sounds like the head gasket.

If its that bad, the head is probably either in need of a good skim, or it may be fubbard.

if it is just the gasket is it worth having it done and how much would it be ????

Deffinately worth doing, cost depends on wether you do it yourself or have it done by someone else or a garage.

Not a bad job anyway.

If the head's cracked, might be worth considering a second hand cylinder head from a crash-damaged or scrapped Favorit. Do not economise on the quality of your coolant.... it's vital to the head's life.

ok mechanic had a look, goin to take the top of to see the damage. Hopefully just new head gasket and a skim. Does skimming them make them any faster ????,

only problem is when we turn it over there is a very loud knocking noice and he is a little worried that one of the pistons have gone,

anyone had any experience of this ?????

could have a nackered piston , and it has damaged the liner. that could be why coolant is draining out so quickly

in which case, just get down to the scrappies, fitting a replacement engine and doign the HG on it to be sure is going to be much cheaper than the labour and parts involved in piston replacement and head skimming...
