It seems to be drinking alot

Featured Replies

My Fabia vRS se (8109 miles) is drinking loads :worried::bawl:

All Ive done is replaced the air filter with a green filter, and from today Ive started using Diesel Power Sport 4:thumbup: (Im not to sure if its a mind thing but the furby seems to pull and pull :P)

I am considering the idea of Sarah`s new  creation of a bigger air intake, but then that is going to kill the the whole point of getting a diesel (Im sure that would take the at least 20:eek: or so off your mpg)

I think this may be put on for track days only

Dont worry about MPG with tuning, its negligable and can actually improve. and loosing 20mpg is pie in the sky, you probably wont even notice.

I think you'll find once the car loosens off a little and, not trying to sound patronising, you learn how to drive it economically, then your mpg will be fine

Bigw is right about the tuning and the loosening up.

Currently we get 40mpg (aircon on all the time, and with Millers) but only do very short journeys so the engine is only at most efficient for equally short time.

Without aircon it was around 42.5 mpg (tons of brim to brim readings used here)

On one motorway run we got around 47 mpg and most cars were coming backwards.

How much is 'loads' ?

Steve

Tuning (remapping) will mean they turn the EGR down, probably as much as possible. This can get you more MPGs with a light right foot. If you go looking on TDIclub forums, you can contrast some "high miler" intakes and intake pipes with Jason's EGR delete one.

Personally, I find I'm getting better tankfulls now I have cruise control courtesy of - Fabia-vrs.com - Home Page I'm not a stable enough driver to average consistent tankfulls without CC.

IMO the main thing you could do to damage MPG is to fit a decat. Get the little turbo spooling up from way lower down, sucking loads more fuel with it. Thing is, it might not stand the stress and overboost or overspeed its way to oblivion.

it does about 280 - 320 to a basic tank of juice

That's fairly heavy alright....400miles should be easily achievable.

i get about 420 miles with shell v-power diesel costing 101.9p a ltr and thats with £40 worth of the stuff at a time! :)

With over 200 bhp I could get 600 miles to a tank(using the expansion tank), I would just keep an eye on it and try different driving styles and different gearchange points and smoother acceleration. 320 is a little low though.

Brimming to the low fuel light warning I get 440 miles to a tank using Shell V-Power.

The first tank of V-Power I noticed about half way through that the engine suddenly went quieter, and it has stayed this way ever since! (I've used V-Power all the time.)

I get 50-53mpg according to the computer but my calculations say 48-52 so I think the V-Power certainly adds mpg and DEFINITELY makes the engine run quieter, which I think is worth a lot as its a noisy old thing!

You guys are lucky I get 330 on average to a tank which I thought was good but I get spirited every now and then and that's driving 20 miles to work then back again every day and lots of short journeys on wkends so I take it as average. The most I've got is 507 that was on one trip mainly motorways between locations and one stop for lunch.

May I politely ask... do you drive like a tit?

You will get the same with regular diesel, I know thats what I get. It's about 8p per litre more than regular fuel which means that if your putting about 40 ltrs in per fill it's costing you roughly £3.20 extra per tank.

If you do the average 12k per year it would be costing you about an extra £100 a year. That £100 would get you about an extra 1000 miles of normal fuel.

I have used it all and I do about 40k a year. V-power and a lot of the other snake oil fuels they are peddling might run a bit smoother (Although I think this is the brain telling the user that the 8p per litre extra HAS to do something. I ran it for about 3000 miles and noticed nothing), they might even give you 1-2 mpg more but in all honesty is it worth that extra £3.20?

Only if it helps you sleep better at night.....

HMMMM, wonder if that involves the gas pedal and the floor. ;-)

330 average to a tank mean about 33-34 mpg.

You must drive like you stole it everywhere or have a technical issue.

I frequently drive like a tit and get over 400 to a tank easily - and since I started using Millers it's nearer 450 when I fill up. That's 30 miles a day, 6 days a week, backlanes and fast A-roads.

man thats no different from my C2, i get about 280 out of my 30quid tank! talk about being more economical :P

Good lord, I get that from a 1.4 MPI!!!

I don't drive that hard (all the time ;) ) but my car is now "improved" over standard a fair bit. I fill up roughly with £35 of fuel a week and doing short trips (5-10min drives max) round town brings the economy down a fair bit as it's lots of stop and start. It's fine when doing motorway journeys as I get around the 400 mark to a similar tank. When I do drive hard I get high 20's - low 30's mpg so balance out my driving style. Will be fun to see what I'm getting on Saturday as I'll be on the strip at santapod all day.

well mines still new...ish and i only get 500km to a tank and that is me being gentle with it!......give it some beans and the fuel gauge just plummets!!:( think i should stayed with the petrol octy RS!.....ah well!

k:)

Thats not too bad considering other cars out their for the same performance.

Just drive it and enjoy it! :)

there are certainly some lead feet amongst the Brisky forum members , if i ever see under 500 miles for a tank (other than on track day usage) i will begin to get worried , 320 miles is rediculously low , a faulty MAF sensor can cause excess fuel consumption without throwing the EML on , get it checked for fault codes

Here's my latest fuel consumption figures

Miles Litrs MPG Indicated MPG

407 38.45 48.06 49.3

408 37.61 49.25 52.5

413 36.33 51.61 53

420 40.32 47.29 49.7

449 40.83 49.93 52.4

248 23.14 48.66 50.4

As you can see from my figures, 400+ miles should be easily attainable. My drive to work is 3 miles and then I do a bit of motorway driving each week, oh and I never really let my tank go any lower than an indicated 40miles left

I get pretty much just over 400 miles brim to brim using Sainsburys ****e - might switch to this V Power stuff everyone is talking about!

Millers + Sainsbury's ****e = roughly the same as V-Power and ~5p a litre cheaper.
