Millers + Sainsbury's ****e = roughly the same as V-Power and ~5p a litre cheaper.

 I'm sure Sainsbury's marketing would love your description :D

Yeah, just imagine Jamie bloody Oliver saying it while that irritating music plays in the background...

Oh, you like him as well :D

My car was a thirsty bugger when the EGR valve was knackered. Changed that (and had the 40k service done at around the same time) and it was much improved. From 380 miles to a tank up to 420 with the same driving habits.

I always run on supermarket fuel. It's 'mostly' the same as anything else, apart from Tesco muck which my car seems to hate mpg wise.

i've almost exclusively used Sainsburys sh!te since i got my VRS , never had a problem its exactly the same standard diesel you will be able to buy from Shell/BP/ESSO etc because it all comes from the same refinery at Stanlow , iirc Morrisons and Tesco get their fuel from there also

God - I easily see 500 miles before the buzzer goes off. And I like to use my power occasionally. ;) The thing is these TDIs can be driven very sedately indeed, and keeping them off boost and making steady progress, not always on/off throttle, really helps the economy. Keep it off-boost and you should see 50mpg (real).

Does that include the LPG Jason?

I have heard a few people with SDIs on here claiming about 80mpg. I can see 500 miles to a tank but that is long distances only.

Yep, lost count of the post I have made saying thus.

Still, it's not my money.

What about Total/Texaco/Jet/Q8/Save et al?

What about Total/Texaco/Jet/Q8/Save et al?

Probably. It all comes from the same tanks. Morrisons is actually branded Texaco.

Not sure why my car hates Tesco then. My missus found the same with Tescos on her Astra 1.7 TD, it drank it.....wierd. Oddly though her HDi doesn't mind it at all.

It's not psychological either.....we're talking a good 30-40 mile difference on a tank and we both do a fair bit of commuting mileage so it's not down to just cold running etc.

But, mpg and power on a diesel are closely related to the cetane rating which is the fuels willingness to burn when compressed. The higher the rating the more readily and the faster the fuel will burn. It results in lower soot emissions, the ability for the engine to rev higher and quicker and more bang for the amount of fuel injected. I know all fuel tends to come from the same refineries but perhaps cetane boosters are added afterwards?

In addition, aren't anti waxing agents added in winter to stop the fuel getting too thick? Don't these reduce mpg too?

Correct, we used to have a fuel station, and Uk petroleum our suppliers used to send out winter batched deisel some time around september time. It does contain anti waxing agents and yes will affect the running of a diesel engine and MPG. ;)

Just wack some millers in, Its brill stuff, I am now getting 48mpg average and my left foot is made from the finest lead on the planet.

Here's my latest fuel consumption figures

Miles Litrs MPG Indicated MPG

407 38.45 48.06 49.3

408 37.61 49.25 52.5

413 36.33 51.61 53

420 40.32 47.29 49.7

449 40.83 49.93 52.4

248 23.14 48.66 50.4

Eh:confused: I must have the new rose tinted trip computer!

Last fill 49.13 litres (nipple tweek) 473.7 miles 52.8 trip/43.83 actual

And it's been like that since delivery, I wish i was that optimistic

Failing that my maths has gone all to hell

Yup, your right foot is rather heavy.....

Does the millers stuff increase the cetane rating?

Does the millers stuff increase the cetane rating?

Yer it does mate, by a few points. The car not only runs smoother but seems to idle a hell of a lot better, add to that the slight power increase and mpg increase, its ace.

its what they add to it at the petrol station that worries me,it leaves the same refinary and somewhere on the way to the supermarket it gains some nasty addatives that ****ed peoples engines up strange how it was only the supermarket ****e that did it don't you think?

my mpg is 52 at the minute, after 20 mins on track at silverstone it dropped to 20mpg,which i still thaught was reasonable all things considered:D

Hmmm, I thought Shell were the past masters of this with several past products...

The recent Silicone contamination issue didn't just effect supermarkets and it was fuel supplied by Greenergy which supplies a lot of independants as well as the supermarkets. It was just bad luck that the contaminated fuel went to Tescos, morrisons and Asda and not others.

the Sainsburys i use is less than 2 miles from the refinery :D

currently got Tesco in though because that was the cheapest whilst i was down at my parents near Chepstow last weekend , car drives the same

i'm guessing from your user name that your car is a '56 plate VRS , for some reason the later trip computers are unbelievably optimistic ( in other words wrong) the earlier ones seem to be a lot more accurate , my '04 being not more than a couple of MPG out , also i think the later cars do use more fuel , possible due to the EURO4 emissions

Not too bothered about fuel consumption as I'm spending in a month what my Mazda was using in 10-14 days, Just didn't expect the trip to be so far wide of the mark. Gotta take the bad with the good!

User name was down to lack of imagination when registering and nothing to do with nocturnal preferences and age:D

Thats not too bad considering other cars out their for the same performance.

Just drive it and enjoy it! :)

May I politely ask... do you drive like a tit?

In a women`s yes I do, but it`s a vRS (and its a Skoda) so yes some times I drive it like Ive stolen it... But I use cruise control when I come into a residental area  Then the fuel returns 49+ :D

Thank you to everyone who has replyed on this thread :handshke: :grouphug:

Lucky g*t :D

Good to hear you're saving plenty AND having good fun

so yes some times I drive it like Ive stolen it...

Trouble is it's SO irresistble :D:thumbup:

Esp when I don't have the passenger speed warning sytem activated

I get pretty much just over 400 miles brim to brim using Sainsburys ****e - might switch to this V Power stuff everyone is talking about!

I don`t think the "Super Diesel" is really worth the extra cost :thumbdwn: What I do rate is this Millers additive!!!

DIESEL POWER SPORT 4, rty it You Will fell the car pull and pull!! :P

on the bottle it quotes "Better than New Engine Performance" and at only £12 bottle, it gets my vote
