New shape Octavia - plans for Vrs model

Featured Replies

Hello to all

Just registered to this site - I am an Octavia Vrs owner (as are three of my other friends) and it is six months old but poorly at the moment as a left hand drive HGV (from belgium) has driven in to me whilst he was changing lanes at a round about!!!! classic story of blind spot madness!

Anyway, I have noticed on a What Car website that there are plans for the new shape Octavia vRS around July/August 2005. It will use the 200bhp engine that is forthcoming in the new VW Golf GTI. What car's sources believe that this could possibly have a power output up to 50 BHP more than the current vRS (230 BHP). In the same article they have mentioned the launch of a 4WD Octavia but not in same paragraph as the new vRS model. So it is not clear as to whether the new vRS will be 2WD or 4WD. However, with prices for the vRS expected to start around

This weeks Auto express reviewed the new Octavia TDI and it suggested that there are no new plans to replace the Octavia vRs as they are not a wrc rally car any more.

If this is so I'll have to find another type of car when i swop the Octavia, no Diesals and the fabia is to small

Lets hope they do replace the octavia vRS with a petrol engine with similar or more power, not bothered about 4 wheel drive.

Page 18 of Auto Express this week states

"But theres bad news for Performance fans ; although the turbo vRS models will continue until next year, there are currently no plans to Replace them"

Lets hope this is not the case, it wil be a great shame and an end to Skodas motorsport flare leaking through to its production cars, time for a Seat or Audi?

John

The review by Car4 (someone posted it a few days ago) says there will be a new RS with the 200bhp FSI engine from the new Golf GTi.

Also says this makes sense as the UK is the biggest market for RS'.

:ne_nau: Confused? We'll just have to wait and see.

It sounds like we might have an Octavia GTi if the motorsport connection goes, and production of the vRS stops. :(

I know it's probably all computer generated stuff but...

The skoda uk site has a microsite for the new octy (select New Octavia under 'What's new' then look for the link buried in the blurb on the right).

Further buried on there is a gallery section and under there is a 'studio' section with what looks like photo's.

Here's some deep links to 2 front quarter views that look tellingly different:

front-1

front-2

And here's the corresponding 2 rear views:

rear-1

rear-2

The alloys and tailpipe on the 2nd/silver one look remarkably familiar :)

It also looks to have revised spoilers front and rear and (maybe it's me) but the silver one looks a tad lower?

Wishful thinking maybe!

4Car's road test of the new Octavia is in our links section here.

That's funny! I just discovered those same differences half an hour ago!

And yes, they do look like vRS preludes...

The silver octy with the spoilers etc is a model fitted with the optional "Optical Tuning Package". I found a number of buried pages in this site, its a bit of a nightmare (front and back pages). The link to the styling bit is:

Hi John

u never Know if the Rs becomes obsolete they could go the same way the escort RS went and become more desirable and collectable with time?

The silver Octy has a very familiar Octagonal tailpipe though.... Correct me if I'm wrong but the current Octy vRS is the only model in the range with a tailpipe that is visible and has a cut-out in the bumper. Will Skoda follow the same design with the new one?? Who knows we'll all have to keep guessing.

I would tend to agree especially the ultra rare estate versions ;)

:rofl::rofl: ..............Nice one Jimmy .. ;)

I would tend to agree especially the unwanted estate versions ;)

Indeed ;)

the 4x4 estate version has been announced, FSI 2.0 150bhp - no turbo though :(

I've heard from inside Skoda that the vRS is comming, they would be stupid not to.

but will it be priced like the golf or like a skoda?

Its got to be priced under the Golf, or it would never sell.

Strong rumours i heard recently suggest

And a good spec i would imagine at that.

Golf GTi with a good spec is

I reckon the options list might be a bit longer this time too ;)

I've heard that it's going to be a 4.2 litre V8 with twin turbos and approx 320 BHP ........all for 16K :D .............or it may have been 3.0 litre straight six with a single turbo and 230 BHP .........for 20K ...........or it may be a 2.0 litre FSI Turbo and 200BHP .........for about 17K . :D ..............or it may even be ................yes it may even be ..........................a DIESEL ...........

OK Mr Sarcastic :(

Having just been on a course which envolved in a large part FSI and turbocharging FSi I think that shows what they are intending dont you?

OK Mr Sarcastic :(

You know him then ? :D
