Surging vRS

Featured Replies

My 2001 Octavia vRS is surging a bit lately.

If full throttle it's no problem, it's only when you make progress with about 3/4 throttle it surges forward a bit and if you take your foot off a bit it jerks back.

Any ideas?

I doubt it's anything serious and it's not a great deal, just wouldn't mind it fixed so the ride is smooth all the time.

Thanks!

Hello - remind me whether it's remapped, or has had any other "work" done on it?

It could be mapped, I wouldn't know

I emailed the guys that normally do stuff and they said it could take an hour to look at, at a cost of £51... what!

I think this will be the same as a lot of other cars with the same problem. N75 is the response. I replaced mine a while ago and it seemed to help a lot. I can't remember where exactly I got it from vagparts I think. I put the link on here in a previous post about the same subject.

I've now got a "Hyperboost HX Compact Diverter Valve by Stratmosphere" DV fitted, could it be that?

They are known to work fine with the octavia as far as I can see.

How cheap can you pick up a N75 for? I thought the N75 was the original bosch DV?

Ah, Just read in another thread to try unplugging the Maf and testing and then the same with the N75.

How easy are they to unplug? Which plugs are they?

Thanks!

The MAFs easy to unplug, think there are two bolts to undo, it's the sensor in the pipe coming from the air box :)

Maf looks easy although talking to TeflonTom and he said that maf problems normally cause Idle problems.

Spoken on another thread apparently unplugging the n75 will keep the turbo on full boost or no boost.....and shouldn't be unplugged.

Ethos...

Mine surges.

Mine has Hyperboost too :D

Just a coincidence i think.

Well it could be that!

I've got the original still, I suppose I could get that refitted and see if it stops.

Wonder how much it'd cost to get that done though...

Do it yourself. 10 min job.

I'm kak at technical stuff and i managed it. :D

Engine cover off..

Undo the jubilee clips...off it comes.

The N75 is not the DV. Vagparts do them for about £40 IIRC. The part code is stamped on the metal bit of the N75. It controls the opening of the wastegate to dump off the excess boost pressure. There are different versions denoted by the last digit of the part number which is a letter. My S3 was an F version and I swapped for a J version which allowed me to hold more boost for longer as it opened the wastegate slower. Go up too big a step though and you'll go into limp mode - you've been warned! Search for info on here or on the UK-MKIVS forums as there's loads on it and its a cheap mod with lots of benefit and about 15 mins to fit!!
