Fright of My life

Featured Replies

I was driving to work this morning when I got the fright of my life, this little beep, thought it was the cd player or something, then noticed the fuel warning light on, never had a Car that beeps at you before!

David

Just you wait till you run out of screenwash!

Or drive with the handbrake on

Or get too fat for the driver's seat.

I had heard about the handbrake one, take it there is a warning sound for most things?

Similar thing for me - just left home when "bong".

Temperature was below 4 degrees.

Or a dipped beam bulb blows, like mine did last night!

The first day I had mine I had the low screenwash and the low fuel warnings come on. Not sure I'd describe it as a little beep though. More like a "your car is going to explode" type beep!

HAHAHAHA

Picked up my Fabia Vrs today and it beeped at me... my 1st thought was bugger, whats gone wrong already!! Did have a little cloth touching moment!

and when your low on fuel it beeps everytine you start up and drives you mad isn't a light enough

I suppose you should really go and fill up but I like to see how many or should I say how few a miles I can get out of it.

I actually prefer the beeeeep! It at least highlights the issue to hand. I probably wouldn't have known about the bulb for a while had the car not told me. I like the beeeeeeep! feature.

It's probably for the "visually impaired" drivers  I too, would prefer just a light :D

I'm used to a having light on all the cars I owned before but the little beep will prove helpful in diagnosing any problems the car may have ie bulbs gone, screenwash low but I check the car every week for these problems anyhow.

It is prob one of the best cars I have owned to date

You're very easily scared.

A beep gives you the fright of your life.

You're not married, have children or a mortgage,by the sound of it.

I'm about to be married mate, so no mortgage or kids, not having the car that long it gave me a fright to say what is wrong with the car, I thought something had gone wrong with the car.

Except (IIRC) the beep is the same for all problems?

but a light would flash up the dashboard?

Chris

I know! Low fuel = polite 'bong' like you might get when your captain was speaking; low screenwash = 'beeeeeeeeep' like something really bad has happened. Go figure...

but a light would flash up the dashboard?

For all the beeps you either get

piccie of a bulb

piccie of a washer jet

piccie of a fuel nozzle

red handbrake light on (when it's not fully down)

4 degC flashing (but that only bongs, not beeeeeps!)

nearly had a heart attack last night when, for the first time since buying it, the temperature hit 4 degrees....had a good laugh about it after, but the 5 mins speant on the hard shoulder trying to figure out wtf that bong nooise was wasn't as good.. haha..

I only collected mine yesterday so haven't been 'bonged' or 'beeped' by the little blighter yet, but I'm now very much looking forward to fun filled, beeping, bonging journeys in the future :P

but a light would flash up the dashboard?

So what's wrong with just having a light without a beep? ;) Maybe I'm in a minority and people only check their instrument cluster when the car beeps which is it's there?

Chris

Yeah the first time the temp dropped below 5c I was doing 80 up the M6, next thing bong. Hadn't had the car long & though I had broke it already!

I always check my warning lights before I go anywhere like, one of my cars in one week had a problem with the instrument panel, had the airbag light go, the battery light, so checking my dials every day before I go anywhere and also on the move is something I'm used to doing, I never knew that I knew I was low on fuel but never expected a beep, at first I thought it was the cd player coming in with a traffic announcement!

The "you've left your lights on you berk" buzzer is one I hear frequently. Very useful that one.
