Is it worth getting a Seat Strut Brace?

Featured Replies

Pretty simple really :)

Looking into getting one just wondering from those who have had experience of using them.

(voted Yes)

I've done 19K with mine, paired with a rear ARB it is great!

However mine came of my MK4 Ibiza so I didn't have to dig deep for it.

The strut on a basic Ibiza and 17"s made it go like a train on the rails.

I've voted with the beer :)

I've had them in the past on the Fabia/Ibiza/Polo platform, don't have one at the moment, and can't tell the difference. That's my logic....

I voted yes...because I did :)

Agree with Steve. Had one, took it off, couldn't tell the difference. Put the £50 towards a rear ARB, beer or a present for the missus (to soften the blow when you buy the rear ARB!)

Chris

had one before the ARB - did make handling sharper....

Well i have one and I cant say ive noticed a huge differance, but it does look gud....

I had an upper front strut brace on my old polo GTi...and I felt it did nothing for the handeling! Id save your money! :)

I voted for the Beer....as its beer!!!

Never had a strut brace, so couldnt say...been advised that the difference is minimal, untill numerous mods are done..so not considering it till i aint at 130 bhp any more

I have one and I voted No....I just like it cause it looks pretty :D

This has been covered extensively before.

The Strut Brace WILL make a difference if you push the car. It will tighten the front end quite a bit making the steering more responsive and give you more "feel" when in the corner helping you make the right decision sooner (Talent dependant ;) ) However you won't notice this on a trip to the shops or a 20 minute commute unless you live at the top of the cat & fiddle and work at the bottom.

If you don't "push" the car that much or don't do any track days the only purpose it will serve is to make you look like a tart when you show your mates what you have under the hood

Put he £50 towards the ARB first. You can feel the difference that makes pretty much every corner.

Definitely go for the arb over the strut brace. The brace looks nice but I don't notice all that much difference. The Jabba rear arb transformed my car. :)

Did anyone notice a reduction on tyre wear? I've been told that even though you might not feel a difference in handling, it will reduce the wear on you tyres.

Might be true or could be rubbish.

Definitely a noticeable difference in steering response when pushing the car, and I had no other suspension mods on mine.

I'd sell you my strut brace only I'm in N.I. and the postage would probably cost more than the brace lol

Unless your planning on towing someone out of a hedge (like E-E):P I wouldn't bother,

I've never noticed any difference on my Ibiza or Fabia

if your gonna throw it around corners, you WILL notice a difference.

If your not, dont bother. Same for the ARB really, if you like taking corners at speed, get both its amazing the difference they make when giving it some.

I found the strut brace at the front improved reactivity. The steering is just a bit sharper and initial turn in is faster with it that without (not dissimilar to a suspension mod in that respect).

The rear ARB helps keep the car tracking during tight bends and seems to magically assist in pulling the rear round. Initially, I thought it made the car a bit more dangerous (lift off oversteer and snapping quickly rather than progressively sliding), but I reckon different tyres have a bigger impact than having a rear ARB or not.

Nah, don't use it for towing, it's crap

HTH

(I didn't find a differenc in handelling when I had my strut brace 'removed')
