Wheel / Tyre Recommendations

Featured Replies

Morning guys, took the new car over the hills to sheffield last night, dropping down from Eckington the back end didn't feel quite as sticky as I would like, right now it's running some 205/55/16 bridgestones that (AFAIK) the car was delivered with I was planning on getting some Toyo Proxies on change as I ran proxies on the furbie with great results.

I was thinking about going for 225/45/17 rims though, the sputniks look OK I suppose but I was wondering what you guys recommend (don't have to be skoda as long as they are not pig dog ugly!)

Wheel wise I've got the Skoda Appollon in 16" in my 4x4 and reckon they suit the car really well. They look far better in the flesh that the standard wheels as they have a thinner, straighter spoke profile with some detailing at the ends and hence look less stumpy. Only available in 16" though so probably not what your looking for! As for tyres I guess it depends on what you want. I prefer good wet weather grip and handling rather than outright dry grip so I've always gone with directional Vredestein's for the skodas but have directional Goodyear's on the Mazda.

You could try the 'Zeniths' as fitted to the vRS in either 17 or 18 inch.

As for tyres Evo and Auto Express have both done big tyre tests in this month's issues. Goodyear and Vredstein came out really well and in the Auto Express test they had the Toyo T-1R which did not come out, surprisingly considering how well regarded they are by Briskodians, at all well!

Putting Pirelli Rosso's on the front of the Leon made quite a difference against the Michelin Sport Pilots. Initial bite is harder on the turn in and in the wet they are incredible. I do find them sensitive to being at the right pressure though. They have also worn better with approx 25k miles in them currently with them getting due for a change in the next couple of weeks or so. The Michelin Sport Pilots on the rear are the originals with 42k under their belts and just getting down towards the indicators now but they have only ever been on the rear of the car.

I've also had good experiences with Good Year Eagle F1 GSD's in the past on my old S3 and E36 M3.

I'm going for an 18" RS6 package on the Leon which I reckon sould suit the Skoda nicely too. You might want to opt for non-budget tyres though.
