Featured Replies

where is the best place for price and quailty to get a timing belt kit and water pump for a 2001 octavia vrs? so far ive been quoted around £200 but i thought id double check with u guys first.

Do you mean to buy or have it fitted?

£200 sounds about right to buy the kit and water pump i was quoted £180 just for the belt kit

sorry i was ment to say for parts.

Thats a fairly expensive price, we would sell you an exchange pump, and a timing kit for £151.09 inc VAT, and thats with the surcharge if you didnt bring the old unit back!

Genuine parts too that from a dealer....

I paid £280 fitted all in for mine from a Skoda Dealer, ring around

I paid £265 fitted by skoda dealer, when i was ringing around for prices they ranged from £265 which i paid upto £450.. its really worth ringing around.

This is a good price Skoda Parts - Skoda Spares

Febi/Bilstein Cambelt kit and a metal impellor water pump for £90 delivered.

I would recommend metal water pump as the plastic ones have a tendancy to break up.

Personally though i would go for a genuine kit although i think this is a decent make.

Hi apinner,

That's a bargain. Where did you have it fitted?

Seems a tad cheap for a dealer fitted price but some do excell there expectations!

Mine was done at Lightcliffe Huddersfield, Now D.M Keith.

She said £350 when i went to pick it up and i said, but you quoted £265 on the phone and she said.. Errrr, Oh... £265 it is then :D

UPDATE:

Just found the recipt, it was even less.. £260!!!

Here is the breakdown...

jus checked with gsf and they were charging just under £90 for the two :D. thats a big difference compare to £200 . i think ill go with them.

thanks guys

I would make sure the water pump has a metal impellor.I have seen many plastic ones on this site which smashed to pieces and got lost around the cooling system.

Also make sure the belt is a good quality one as timing belts are not something to skimp on.

Or the latest version from Skoda:thumbup:

hi there, my octy vrs si booked in at skoda in derby on the 16th for timing belt and water pump supplied and fitted at £243.00 for the timing belt and £91.60 for the water pump xx sadie lou :P

just had my cambelt/water pump/tensioner done this week dead on 60k and the plastic impeller on the water pump had broke off...luckily the broken pieces came out easy enough but it goes to show they are well worth changing - i have a metal one in now!

We have a winner I think for main dealer prices, how did you manage that or darent I ask? :P

EDIT: Ah, just saw the first price initially. Quite why theyre charging £91.60 for the pump when its accessible with the belt off anyway is a crazy amount!!

Do you mind me asking how many yrs since the last belt change as Skoda recommend 4yrs or 60k

That depends if that includes the price of the pump, coolant and any additional labour for changing the pump itself. You get half an hour for drain and refill coolant by the book.

Aye but still seems a fair old whack to me. Very odd the price differences between dealers isnt it.

Stands to reason as labour rates change, same as house prices, wages etc etc.

I cant believe the price difference either between skoda dealers the water pump price includes coolent etc they said the the labour price included is not much as it is all stripped down anyway, i have spent alot of money with them so they should be kind to me lol ! anyway will have a day shopping in derby while they look after my baby for the day ! - wonder if i could get them too clean it too hhmmmnnn ! xxsadie lou:O

martziniuk - my vrs is a 2001 and just turned 60k but i believe that Skoda are now saying you should get the belt changed at 4 years or 60k whichever comes first.

My belt was in good condition as it happened when i removed it but it was always going to be changed at 60k - its not worth the risk...i know some people on here have changed their belts at 60k and they have been in a pretty bad way.

FYI my local skoda dealer wanted £320 for the belt, water pump and tensioner all fitted. To buy the parts from them came to £110. I didnt use them though - got mine done on my driveway ;)
