Cruise control failure

Featured Replies

thanks, although it means little to me. still at least they charged me nothing!

My 05 2.0TDi has just developed this fault. Also, when I try to check the MPG over time using the button under the R/H stalk, it changes the values as if I had pressed the button on the end of the stalk.

Is this also a known fault?

My car has now done 86,000 miles and is 3 years old next month so it is out of warranty. Is it worth trying to get the cruise stalk done under warranty?

Any advice very gratefully received.

Mark

I think you could try them and intimate that you know there was a faulty batch - No need to be too specific at this stage.

Thanks Stu

I know of the faulty batch regarding the cruise stalk, does the other stalk have any known problems? When the stalk is replaced, do they just replace the stalk or do they change the whole assembly, including the R/H stalk?

The stalks are seperate. I have seen a couple of fault codes on the right hand ones too.

It could actually be linked to an issue with the steering control unit but that would be for them to decide.

And I thought I was just paranoid today when nothing was working right!

Just a quick update for others with this fault. After taking VRStu's advice, I mentioned that it was a known problem to Skoda CS and they agreed to do it under warranty. This never actually happened but I did only pay £50 ish fitted instead of £160 ish for the parts alone, which considering it is 25,000 miles out of warranty I was happy with.

I have left feedback on the dealer page. http://briskoda.net/forums/skoda-dealers-south-south-east/ashmore-green-garage-newbury/38205/#post1325233

Thanks for the advice Stu

I had these same symptoms on my '05 reg car. When I changed the normal dash to maxidot one, the problems disappeared.

So the problem might not always be with the stalk itself.

I had a cruise control failure this morning. The first one.

Sadly the warranty expired at the end of April :/

Since I have read about this problem here before, I am confident if I tart the car again it will work. If it does, I'll try and go the my new local dealer (just moved to the Northwest), probably Claybank, and ask whether they can sort it out either under the recall scheme, or with Skoda's agreement, under warranty.

Do you think there is any chance of success?

How much would it cost otherwise? Could I buy the part somewhere else?

Thanks for your help

You can buy the stalks yes, beware that a dealer may well supply and fit the newer type as fitted to 2008MY cars as the earlier ones are harder to get hold of.

You could certainly give them a try and see how you get on, it wasn't a recall though.

Thanks Stu.

I'm in the process of moving house (should get the keys tomorrow!), so won't do anything in the next few days. As suspected, cruise control worked OK yesterday evening when I left the office.

Are the new ones really different?

For what it's worth I had the cruise failure on my 4x4 fsi after 9 months. Daeler replaced the stalk under warranty with no quibble. It's definitely a new stalk because the markings are different (new icons indicating full beam, dipped, flash etc.).

The problem with the tempomat switch is well known to Skoda engineers.

They had fixed it in May 2007.

This is the publication where the quote is taken from.

Can't find in English, but you should (at least on paper ;)). This is Issue 12, 2008 of Auto Bild.

(very) rough translation:-

to the malfunctionings of the Tempomaten: " The problem is quite well-known us. Since May 2007 the connections in the automatic controller are through-soldered, so that it does not come to our realization no more to the descriptive disturbances
