Octavia vRS deal to continue

Featured Replies

Lordy.

So a car that's essentially a Golf GTI for £3000 less is "overpriced"?

And why the obsession with DSG? Can't work a clutch pedal?

If you're going to be a one-track record, at least be a good one! :D

Here you go mike. Why don't you join these lot and tell them thier Ford is great and that you can't wait for DSG to come out and that you'll be front of the que for one. In fact bugger it, while you're there you can tell them how 5hit Skoda's are and that they are all over priced without DSG.

Interesting thread but lets keep things nice as it is Sunday. ;)

On one hand Id have to say that the I dont personally feel that the MK2 Octavia offers the amazing value that the MK1 did in its day BUT it still represents very good vfm.

As has already been said, its 99% Golf MK5 but is bigger overall, has more equipment, is around 3k cheaper than the equivalent VW Golf model and there also seems to be better margins for haggling at the Skoda dealers from my experience. Skoda dealers also appear more able on the aftersales than a lot of VW dealers I have heard about. To cap it all Im convinced that not only are the interior build quality's of the Golf and Octavia VERY similar but the Octavia actually has some nicer materials in places - again this is my opinion.

DSG is a great option - in my eyes its certainly the only 'auto' id ever have but at the end of the day I prefer a fully manual box so this wasnt a deal breaker for me. If you are buying a car for the DSG option then obviously you wont be looking the Octavia.

Surely if Skoda offered DSG as an option (and who is to say they wont on the facelift Octy?), damped the grab handles, gave us a piston/strut to open the bonnet and made the mirrors electrically foldable - who in their right mind would go and buy the VW for a fair bit more money?

Personally Id rather have the MK2 VRS and keep the 4k + saving (with all the options I specified) in the high interest bank account. For me that negates the extra few % that the VW holds in value also.

Oh, and I also prefer the look of the VRS to the GTI... (this arguement of course could go on and on and on and....) :o

Who cares about the Ford ST. This is a Skoda forum

If I wasn't paying the fuel bill, I'd probably have a ST over the petrol vRS, but I am so I didn't.

Horses for courses at the end of the day, but not one that needs to be forced down everybodies neck.

Skoda VERY over priced now, no DSG option either which is pure nonsense from them. If they want to play silly, fine..........Ford IS coming with Power shift!

The only thing wrong with the STD:P is the glove box is not big enough to house all the bits of plastic/trim that fall off.

Your a great bloke Mike... :soapbox:
