Is my tyre an MOT failure....?

Featured Replies

The Furby is due its MOT at the end of the month and whilst most things are in order, one of my front tyres is scrubbed on the inside....the question is, do I need to change it before its MOT, or will it be OK?

While I'm here, I fancy getting the 40k service done at Jabba in Manchester - do they do MOTs too? (I could phone them, but it is Saturday - my day of rest)

Check the depth of the tread. 1.6mm over 3/4 of the width of the tyre is safe. If not ,get new boots.

Cheers Richie, it's just the inside that's scrubbed. The remainder of the tyre is OK.

do you mean AwesomeGTI ?

They look within limits on all the markers to me. Doubt they'd be a failure - perhaps just an advisory to say they're down to just over 2mm or something. :)

My mondeo failed its mot with tyres like that, I guess it will depend on the tester. Hopefully you now have the cause of the wear sorted.

the tyre seems fine to me, my fronts are like that (will be replacing with new rubber in a couple of weeks... ) and I'm doing driving tests with DSA examiners checking the car before hand.....

as the policeman said, the law is....

1.6 mm of tread (your tread is above the bar markers shown, which are 1.6 mil) across the center three quarters of the tyre all the way around, with no cuts or bulges on the sidewall.......

:)

Whichever to be honest :D! Thought Jabba were in Manchester too...?

As others have said, 1.6mm across centre 3/4, but many people don't know that it must also show 'visible tread' to both outside edges. From the pics above I'd say yours are OK.
