Vag Com for the Roomster

Featured Replies

Anyone know which version of Vag com I would need to talk to the Roomster?

I would think it uses CAN BUS so it would be the latest version.

Same as the MK1 Fabia Martin as it doesn't rely on CANBUS like the A5 platform cars.

You'll more likely want to have a genuine version that supports the 5J chassis.

However if you think you may change cars in a few years most of the rest of VAG group now use CAN so may be a worthwhile purchase getting the does both lead. That said I'm sure they will bring out a new system in 5 years requiring another new lead.

Yeah, I need a more upto date version than mine I think which probably means my cable won't work.

Ill have a fiddle on the weekend and If I don't get anywhere then Ill see what comes for Xmas.

I have no doubt that your cable will work but you may not have the up to date label files.

The official Roomster support started with version 704. Since the Roomster still uses K-line for most control modules it is indeed possible that older versions do work, but obviously we can't guarantee that a version published in 2003 or 2004 fully work on a 2007 or 2008 model. :)

As Stu already stated, one of the major points on this is also that current versions do have a much better coverage when it comes to label files and control module documentation in general.

  • 1 month later...

My Roomster is due in a month and I want to get VAG COM to be able to repair/service it myself.

From this thread it seems I don't need the CAN Bus cable, but Theresias said the Roomster really needs the new 704 version.

It looks OK then to buy a cheap eBay cable and then buy the $99 software license from Ross Tech.

Am I correct and is there any eBay cable anybody recommends ?

Thanks for such a fast answer, in that case I'll be ordering the offical lead.

I ordered the full HEX-USB+CAN cable, got a tracking reply from Ross Tech and it should be here tomorrow.

I just need to wait for the car now to try it !!

I live near Ilford, Essex in North East London so if anybody is stuck for VAG-COM around there you can always PM me as I'm always happy to help. Just don't expect me to know how to do anything - I'll be in learning mode.

Stick your name down in the register thread and I'll update it.

Ross-Tech service is great, although you should expect a little letter from Fedex in a few days for about £30.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for adding my name to the list.

I thought I got away with the customs charge. Got the lead from Ross-Tech in 3 days and after a week started to relax on the customs charge.

But 2 weeks later the FedEx bill for £33.67 arrives today !!

So in total a Hex-USB-CAN Lead cost me £189.58 + £33.67 = £223.25 which I still think is cheaper than buying from the UK.

I had the same - Thought I was in the clear and then bingo, a nasty surprise on the doormat.
