Brakes pads or discs ?

Featured Replies

My felly has done 47,000 and im fairly sure has never had new discs (assuming its had new pads at some point)

my question is this: On the ebc website EBC Brakes 4u Master Supplier for EBC brakes and Goodridge Brake Lines there is a choice between a Girling caliper and a Kelsey caliper, both are for the 1.3 1994 - which one would a 1998 mk2 s reg felicia have ???

Also is it worth getting green stuff over the standard replacement pads !?

Will she need new discs too ? Is it worth getting groved or drilled ones ??? or are they just a gimic ?

It seems there are two typre of pad: ATE or Lucas what are the differences, how can i tell which i have got.

I think ATE were used from 95-98 then Lucas 98 - 2001

I had this problem with my last car: a 1994 N reg polo with the 1.3 ADX engine which was only used for a year then dropped !!! grr

That remindes me if anyone has fitted 17cm speakers into the front of their felly please tell me how. the 13cm are just too quiet.

thanks

ada9_1_b.JPG <----- These look just like my calipers if that helps. (mine arnt this rusty tho)

amp your front speakers, you can buy low power amps with easy wiring from halfrauds ( i wouldnt buy it there thou)

try either in google, car audio security or car audio centre.

Girling

girling set up on my 1.3 1998.

My brake pads are off ebay and are the same as that on a 1.3 sierra (yes they did make a 1.3)

look like my lucas ones.

OMG,  they make a huge difference!

they are no gimmic

looks like the lucas caliper to me. If you look on the actual caliper it should say what type of caliper they are on the body. I have a 96 felicia and they are Lucas but not too sure if they changed them for the 98

With something that light, I'd say Mintex M1144, or DS2500 pads, on plain or grooved discs.

Cross-drilled discs are a bit of a gimmick, and seem more likely to crack between the drillings (which is partly down to manufacturers cross-drilling and not then heat-treating to relieve the stress-raisers from the drilling process).

dont get drilled! i use dimmpled and grooved. drilled will start to crack from the holes

however mine are guna be plain disks soon, but there guna be 280mm!!!! hehe
