Is the Fabia meant to be a hard ride

Featured Replies

Hi all, my Furby is in for repairs just now, and I have been given a Corsa as a lend car

Well as a 1.2 it is not really a match for my VRS, I now find it a much softer ride, a Corsa with my VRS power would be preferable to my VRS

Are my VRS shocks shot, or is it the way the VRS is ?

ie:- crossing the Tay Road Bridge it has joints every 500 mtr, not felt on the Corsa Shock through the system in my Furby

I like my Furby VRS though I am getting apprehensive, even my local tuner STAR PERFORMANCE has ditched it and gone SEAT observing the car park

As in a previous thread, you get what you pay for, I mean I like my VRS but I would love a TVR BENTLEY or FERRARI, or even the Humble BMW, though in the price bracket the Furby VRS is the best VFM, Just wish it was a softer ride!

Have you driven the Corsa through a bend?

Its like a boat on the high sea's.

A hard ride is the price you pay for sports suspension.

Perhaps a Renault Scenic might be better? Hehe.

My Fabia wasn't a hard ride, even with Eibachs springs, and although it doesn't make any difference, but coupled with a Strut brace.

It was very soft and wallowy, until I had the above modifications, which, even then, didn't make the ride hard.

Compared to my last car the Furby is a softer ride, I modded my last car and boy was it a hard ride hitting every speed bump or pot hole. I find the furby a fantastic car ride wise and in the corners, every pothole or speedbump I find it easy on the back side now.

I think the Fabia VRs is actually quite a soft ride, certainly compared with the equivalent Seat.

The vRS has a firmer than normal ride, although sadly it's let down a bit as the dampers don't appear to be well matched to the springs meaning it can be a bit jarring at times, especially on some of our B roads, and not as tight and controlled in other situations.

Koni FSD's are apparently good at making the ride a bit more comfortable as well as improving the handling....

I think there's a correlation between driver age and perception of ride quality.

The older you get,the softer the ride.

Maybe that's because older people tend to have more experience of cars with proper sporty suspension, whereas a lot of the young'uns will be comparing it to the 1.2's, etc they learnt to drive in?

From the test in Autocar, the very latest Corsa (06 onwards) is meant to be the smoothest riding small car you can buy. New Fabia's ride is supposed to be almost as good. I think the old Fabia is probably quite good ride wise but it's about seven years old and engineering moves on.

I find the vRS's suspension a touch 'crashy' on our **** roads. Before my Fabia I had a Bora and it was like driving a ****in armchair!

Agree.

i find it a bit harsh and crashy compared to my old R19 16v. The fabia doesnt suit rough roads.

Same as an Octavia vRS then, even with coilovers ;)

I speak as one who hated the standard VRS ride - I've just had FSDs fitted. The ride quality feels the same at 30, but gets progressively better till at 70-90mph it completely irons out creases and potholes....expensive but well worth it  I'm going for the Eibachs next, I think the FSDs have slightly raised the ride height somehow.

Drove the Corsa round a bend, it is only 1.2 and I damn near killed

myself, I thought the steering had gone

Get Furby back 09:00 tomorrow BLISS

Still the Corsa got me up and down to work, and was a loan car

Better than two busses and a train :-) Saved a tenner in fuel too!

mind I was driving it like a party (girly) until I had run it in for them :-)

I find the Fabia under sprung & underdamped as standard, but that may just be me :)

They have cars in Fife

Only joking you think the Tay Bridge is bad try the Forth Bridge, ride is quite good in mine to be honest though.

I guess it's relative...when I drive the Fabia vRS it feels like limo levels of ride quality, and brilliant handling, but that is after driving our 2001 Polo which is the worst handling and riding car I've ever encountered.

Agree.

Where abouts in the 'pool are you mate?

Huyton mate. Just off the M57 exit for prescot. Yourself?

West Derby my man, so not too far from your good self. Don't really see that many Fabia vRS's in Liverpool do you? I saw a guy driving through Huyton the other day in an 03 plate Octy vRS though.

See plenty of octy's now but the furby is still rare around here.
