Hatch Maxi-dot Warnings

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I have a new octavia for about 1 week now and it has 400km now and encountered the problem two times now. When i start the car on the maxi-dot display it shows that the hatch is opened even if its closed. I got the ingnition key out and tried to open the hatch, its stuck. Ok, i tried to lock/unlock the car and still no luck opening the hatch, i tried to unlock only the hatch, nothing. I got back in the car and all the way home (10km) the maxi-dot kept beeping and showing that the hatch is open. I got home and got the ingnition key out again and i could open the hatch.

Please note that before this to happend i had another two trips and all this time i never opened the hatch so these previous times it didnt warned me but it warned me the last time and even if the hatch was closed, i even pushed so ill make sure its closed, still nothing, the warning was still there.

I am sure its not a big thing, maybe the hatch sensor or something, but i am thinking that maybe someone out there had this problem. Maybe this is a new problem that comes with MY2008 :)

Besides this its a great car and worth all the money. Thanks

Welome :)

No problem with my car but it is a combi :)

I noticed with my combi that it has a safety catch and main latch. It took some getting used to - it needs a reasonable slam to go fully home.

It can seem properly closed but is only on the safety catch, which shows up on the maxidot.

Ive had this happen a few times but it is due to the hatch not quite being fully closed. At a glance it looks closed (and won't open) but on closer inspection it is sticking up by a few mm's. As well as the maxi dot the other sign is that the indicator lights don't flash when you close the doors with the remote fob.

The hatch needs quite a good slam to shut properly.

thanks for the help. i will wait and see if this problem will come up again. as i mentioned i made a few trips without opening the hatch so i think that if it wasnt closed properly it should have warned me then also. maybe it is just me trying to get used to this car :) but if someone else had this and it was a senzor problem or something like this please let me know :) i will let you know if this happends again and if it turns out to be a senzor/electrical problem. thanks

I initially found that I couldn't open the hatch on its own by 'blipping' the centre button on the remote; but then found out that you need to press and hold (for a couple of seconds) the centre button for the hatch to click open.

As to shutting the hatch; I find that a little bit of help to the weight of the hatch is enough to close it securely; it doesn't need to be slammed.

Hope this helps.

could just be the switch that effectivley tells the car weather the boots shut or not. i would have a little trip to the dealer and get them to test or replace it.

well guys i still have the problem. during the winter it didnt acted up but now it acts again almost every morning. got to the dealer but as they didnt see the problem they told me they cant replace nothing, they have to see the problem and then scan the car while the problem is acting and only then they can order the replacement parts. it seems i am the only one thats lucky :)

Why not give this a try. On the two outside edges of the hatch there are 2 black rubber bungs. Screw them right into the socket and see if that helps. If they stick out, the boot sometimes doesn't close properly. The bungs have screw threads on them, so should take you about 20 seconds to try.

Let us know how you get on mate.

check the metal handle thing that the boot locks onto is actually screwed in place? had this on a vauxhall and it was the bolt holding the handle thing that the boot locks to that was loose making it appear not closed.

the problem is 100% not mechanical, the boot is locked ok, its electrical and since it acts mostly when the day temperature is high and the night is cold. i think it does a bit of condensation in there and it goes bezerk. when i got to the service (i got there two times with this problem) they checked the mechanical system and everything is ok on that side.

for example i washed a car one night last week, at 2am so outside was cold and after i washed the car the problem appeared and after i finished washing the car and got on the road the error kept going on and off at every bump in the road for about 5minutes. the car was washed with cold water :) if this is any help. anyway the problem is clear i think, the whole boot locking system need to be replaced, maybe only the electrical part if its possible. the only thing i need to do is make it act while i am at the dealer so he can change the piece, otherwise he wont change it as he doesnt think there is a problem :)

so thanks guys for the support. i will let you know after i replace the locking system and do a few days of test drive. thanks again

try and find the bonnet switch in the boot area and check the contacts are not corroded/loose or even have any debris on the connection.

i have found the switch that turn off or on the maxi-dot warning but it works ok when i push it by hand. i set up a visit to the dealer on friday morning, i will take the car there at night and leave it for them to find it in the morning there since every morning it gives the boot error. i will then get back and let you know about the solution they provide and see if this solves the problem. thanks

got the car to the dealer at 2am two days ago so the service guys can find the car in the morning and see the error but as these things always do :) there was no error that day :) so starting monday i will get in the car each morning and try to get to them with the error on :) it will be hard as it may go off after i hit a few bumps in the road, but i will try and see how far can i get and maybe repeat his every morning. the problem really starts to get on my nerves

Finally the problem is solved. After 5 visits to the service they fixed the problem. I had to go to the service manager and make a fuss. So the problem was at the whole boot lock mechanism and i think the bad guy was that damn sensor there. So after i spoke with the manager who was really nice he asked the guys to take the whole boot locking mechanism from a drive-test car and then install it on my car. From that day the error is gone and i am happy again :) almost an entire year of ding-ding-ding every morning ahhh and a lot of jumping on the boot to open :) So in case someone has this problem this might help. Thanks for the support guys.

After a while i discovered another thing that was a sign of deffect but i did not knew at that time. If i tried to close the boot and it did not close properly, closing only at the first step then i could not open the boot until i pushed it by hand so it close to the second step also. I see now that this was a sign of the problem but since it was my first skoda i didnt knew it. Shame that the dealer did not seen this on my 5 trips to them. Maybe this will help someone in the future. Thanks again for all the support.
