Unusual Fabia Vrs Exhaust cleaning tip!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I cleaned my exhaust on my vrs today on the cheap and was well impressed to see the finished result.

Pics to follow in due course.....

top tip if you have a diesel car with a chrome exhaust finisher like my fabia and it's not been cleaned in 28000 miles what sort of cleaning product would you use???..........

A lemon!!!!.......

Let me explain how this one come about.

I cleaned the car, clayed it and then polished it, after seeing some of the Fabias on Briskoda I noticied that their exhausts were shiny and well mine was all sooty!!

Started cleaning it with meguirs hot rims to soak in the dirt, then took a old tooth brush to clean them, still stubbon dirt, so used metal polish and still the same, it was only when my assistant told me for a laugh that they use vinegar I started to raid the house, but we don't have any!!

My assistant then told me that a trick in the trade to clean stubbon stains of a metal kitchen bunker in the kitchen is to use a lemon.

So yes I cut a lemon in half and scrubbed at the exhaust with that and it works a treat, the exhaust came out how it should have done when it only had a few miles on the clock, I'm quite proud there is wee bits of soot which still can't quite come off but once the exhaust is heated a bit, they come off with a cloth.

Very proud of this little trick so would recommend it as top tip on the cheap to save some money.

If you excuse me now I'm away to Morrisons to buy a couple of lemons for my mum as I need to explain why one of her lemons is well gone.

Is this unusual??

Cheers

I've got to thank my girlfriend for this, she is trained as a chef and picked this tip up from her old boss, it can work two waysyou can add the lemon to the water or slice it in half and rub it in the exhaust aperture and then use a tooth brush or alloy wheel brush to clean the inside.

Pics will follow onight.

Cheers for the tip.......

The one on the mrs' car is really easy to clean and comes up like new everytime i wash the car...... Mine on the other hand always has a few black stains that i can never get rid of so this will be my next attempt.:thumbup::thumbup:

Cheers

Dave.

I used Duraglit (Brass)

It really does work.

Not a lemon in sight

will have to try that, cheers.

Claying gets the worked in grit out of the paint, so when you machine polish it doesnt work them in further.

That sort of thing.
