03 Plate Superb supension /steering rack

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have been told that a 03 plate superb I am looking at (stolen recovered ) needs some parts for the front suspension / and possible steering rack.

I need to know if this 03 plate 1.9tdi Superb shares it's parts with an Audi , and if so which model ? .

As I have been informed that this is the case, but the informant was unsure as to which actual Audi model has the same parts on.

Regards,

Bob.

I think it's a Passat that share most of the running gear tbh mate, try PM'ing Stu, he's quite well up on things.

Loosly A6 based, but mostly the same as the B5.5 Passat.

If you want specific part numbers I could compare them for you. :)

B5.5 Passat. Use year for year parts - real year is 10th digit in VIN. Ignore number plates.

What has happened to it?

The main problem when replacing a rack on the B5.5 is setting the raised toe. Most dealers don't know what it is - let alone how to set it. It's adjusted by moving the vertical bolt in the track rod end after slackening the (usually seized) pinch bolt.

rotodiesel.

lol I know what you mean. I told them what the tool was for setting it when I started there.

Thanks for the feedback so far Guys, I will have to have a look at the vin N0 for exact year of manufacture .

The vehicle in question is for my brother (who has now bought it ) . It's a stolen recovered , which appears to have been chased by Plod , and had probably either hit a kerb or had a blow out , and the car has been driven on a almost disintergrated tyre, the alloy is I think salvagable, but cos the car came to salvage with front wheel NS in the boot

it's not quite clear whats been badly bent or damaged in the supension / steering rack department, but it looks out of alignment (like its been smacked from the side ). we were just trying to find out which cars share the same parts, so we can get whatever we need.

from the scrapper !

Sorry to be a bit unclear about whats damaged and whats not.Its had to tell until we get a wheel back on (if it will go on).

I will let you guys know how we get on, in the meantime any other snippets of info are welcome.

Thanks again .

Regards,

Bob.
