15/04/2004 black fabia VRS

Asked in another thread but threads disappeared

at 70 mph my car sits around 2,200 rpm

and at 80 mph sits around 2,450 rpm

do i have the long 6th gear or the short 6th gear?

Whats the pro's and con's of my gear ratios

I was wondering this last night.....mine does the same revs at that speed (04 vRS also).

You've probably got the gearbox type listed on the big white sticker in the boot and in the service book.

Failing that it is probably possible to tell from the chassis number.

From those revs/gears, you have the later revised shorter gearbox.

Why was it revised to a shorter 6th?

to make sure you've got a nice burst of power 'on tap' wne cruising at motorway speeds I guess.

You have the later gearbox, mine does 1800rpm at 70mph in 6th
Wow that's low....at 70mph I would be pulling about 2,100rpm (I think)

Indeed! The economy must be good though.......although you'd have no power at all on the m'way without dropping a cog or speeding up to 80 before attempting to change lanes etc. :D

Yeah - mine does just over 2000 at 70 in 6th and I certainly don't need to change down if I need to power up the FTL drive.

I do not know what the hell I have other than it frightens me to death at times

I can sit at 70 in sixth about 1900/2000 rev and instantly scream to 110 just using my right foot with torque all the way I always back off then as I am scared the engine or I blow up or something, still not in the red though :)

I have opened the bonnet to check oil, water, etc and change a lamp, other than that no idea,

That plus only ever having 1.6 petrol company cars previously, or the last a pug206 diesel, each one struggling to touch eighty, maybe that is what VRS's do

and my VRS is infact normal ?

Maybe I got starperformances ex yellow furby  and do not know it
