Well it looks like I am leaving the Skoda Fraternatity....

Featured Replies

After yet another breakdown from the cursed Octavia!

This time it left me stranded after filling up with fuel, and refused to start.

Luckily the RAC got me going again mind but my confidence in this car is totally shattered.

Am thinking of returning to a Diesel, more than likely a Ford or a Peugeot, I really didn't wanna let it come to this but 2 breakdowns in 7 weeks is far too much!!!

Ford or Peugeot Diesel? No don,t do it!!:thumbdwn:

I certainly agree about the peugeot diesel, especially the turbo'd ones. The engineer who visits the office to fix pc's has a 407, I think its now on its 3rd turbo in less than 12 months.

Well I had a Non Turbo Pug Diesel before I came to Skoda and it was reliable as anything for 3k. Just the steering rack was going on that after 144k!

deff not the pug far too prone to breaking down

maybe a ford with a tdci is ok

you just do not seem to have any luck with that car.

hope you have some success with something else if you do change

Cheers Mate!

At the moment I just don't see to have any luck.

Am really missing the Felicia, did 1500 trouble free miles in that before the Octy! Might get another Felicia but a diesel one this time!

Well it definately looks like I am leaving the Skoda brand.

Have found a very nice low mileage 1993 Mercedes-Benz 190D 2.5 Diesel, with 65k on the clock, having always admired these cars am highly tempted to go for this one!

Well it definately looks like I am leaving the Skoda brand.

Why not, you will kick yourself if you don’t get one and find that in a few years there are no decent ones left. Go for it and have a ball, Good luck:thumbup:

if it is the same lump which then went in the first generation c class then it will be great as we had one at work which when we changed it, it had over 170k on it and still going strong

enjoy it :)

I agree don t do it these octavias are fine cars perhaps you should have a newer one do not have the pug you will then realise what trouble is i used to own a citroen xm went wrong every month i knew a bit about this car so i use to do it myself even the suspension. but was wasting my time

when i could of been doing other things i have now got an octavia which

had 28000 miles when i brought it in 2004 only had one 1 major prob so far the timming belt but apart from that it has been good so far .

I don't agree I think the Pugs and Fords are every bit as good as the MK I Octavia and actually handle from the factory. (This excludes the 307 which is a heap IMHO)

The Merc sounds like a nice car too, especially if in good condition :)

problem is most 10 year old cars will have reliability issues (parts worn etc.)

breaking down is part of the fun

ive owned alot of cars i mean alot.most have had problems but the best for me was volvo

had 3 and never a problem from any, will be going back down volvo route as soon as i get rid of this german piece of s@@t

Just a quick update to this thread.

Decided to keep the Skoda, its back to its best now and back to liking it again.

Still hating the economy or lack of and looking about for a Skoda diesel! :D

my 306HDi was much better and more reliable than my current Octavia TDi. If I did not have 2 dogs and the need to cart around various horse related things then I would go back to my old 306 like a shot!

mpg on the Octy is probably fractionally better than on the HDi though and it does have lower road tax - so not all bad!
