LuK dual mass flywheel (DMF)

Featured Replies

Greetings everyone,:)

I'm 74 years old, live in Hertfordshire and have owned my Fabia vRS since December 1, 2003 when I bought it ex demo with exactly 5k on the clock. I traded a Fabia PD100 for it which had been faultless for 48k except for the front ARB bushes which required the whole ARB assembly to be replaced under warranty at 34 months old. Yes, I do a lot of miles for pleasure!

Two weeks ago my drivetrain sounded like a dustbin full of tin cans. The RAC and a Skoda Main Dealer thought that the problem was the clutch but I thought it was the engine management. They were proved right in a way because the clutch had been wrecked by the failure of the LuK DMF which I understand is now standard on all VAG and Ford cars and perhaps other marques.

The total damage to my wallet for flywheel and clutch was £965.00.

If I were you i'd contact Skoda UK and ask for a goodwill contribution as there are lots of known problems with LUK DMF's.

Welcome :)

Thanks to everyone for your welcome to Briskoda.

I have noted the Skoda Customer care number, thankyou Sarah and for your advice to pursue them for a contribution, thankyou Stu.

In reply to Oilburninnut to revert to a Single Mass Flywheel how do you know you have a DMF until it falls apart? Nowhere in the Skoda sales lit is DMF mentioned and would anyone outside the motor trade know what it is? The apparently clued up RAC mechanic failed to identify the real problem.

I had never heard of DMF before but I am not a tuning nut now - getting too old!

Used to drop rear suspensions on VW Beetles for 1.5 degrees negative camber and get up to other tricks to avoid triple 360 degree spins on wet autumn roads.

you should have joined when you got the car,you would have known all about the dmf;)

Good effort with the beetles i love them air cooled cars

I have now received £233.01 from Merritts of Aylesbury as 50% contribution to the INVOICED cost of the DMF and the release bearing. They initially tried to fob me off with 50% of their purchase cost from Skoda. Rachel Court of Skoda UK soon put them right on that! She can be contacted on the number which you gave me - 08457 745745.

Hello and welcome. Excellent choice of motor. Sorry to hear you misfortune, but glad it's sorted now.
