Wassup chaps,

This warning light came on today, the pads look as if they've got a fair bit of wear left in them. When I had MOT they said a good 2-5k left and that was about 1-2 months ago!!!

I've heard they can come on as little as 2/3s worn?!

Rang up skoda and they quoted £110 for a new set of front pads fitted which is crazy price!

What cheap pads can I get that will work with the sensor that are as good as or maybe slightly better that the oem pads?

The wear indicator is only on the inner f/n/s pad so that might have worn worse than the other pads. I fitted brembo disks and pads (can't remember make off hand) that were supplied by GSF.

Fitting the pads was only a few seconds of work on the front, although you will need an 7mm (iirc) alley key - I got one that I can attach to my socket set to extra torque :-)

When I eventually changed my pads I had worn through the sensor wire.... I found that parting the sensor plug and socket was properly the hardest thing I had to do!

I have never come across any after market pads which use the sensor, although that doesn't mean there aren't any.

If you have vag com, you can turn the light off. Alternatively, if the pads are fine, why not just cut the sensor cable off the pad and join the two wires together, then strap it out of the way somewhere.

It seems a bit pointless changing the pads if they have lots of life left in them.

As they are only in one place wouldn't rely too much on the sensor. I had no warning lights only the sound of metal on metal to tell me. EBC pads and brembo discs filled the gap nicely.

The pads on our old Octavia wore down to below the minumum thickness before the light came on

Apex 1109 pads have sensors and cost about £20-25

Well they still look like they have plenty of life in them so I disabled the light in vag com following this guide which worked a treat. Will this JUST disable this light? OR other wanrings?!

Write down the existing coding for future reference. It is shown in the top half of the main screen and will read something like "23412". The first two digits will need to be adjusted to disable the brake pad warning light.

Change the code by subtracting 01 from the first two digits. In this example, 23412 would become 22412

Mintex pads are available with or without the sensor wire, they are a good standard replacement pad, If you want to give them a bit more use, then try the Mintex Extreme at a sensible price.

Please don't use EBC greenstuff out of your own free will, if you are going to drive like anything except your granny..

The link for the pad diagram is broken in the ad so you only see the disc, but the part number MDB2041 is next to where the pic would be above the disc. Compare to the link you posted first, that has MDB1741 next to the pad diagram.

They were grinding alot when braking hard today so think it's getting near to changing them. Hoping that these might be just that little pip better than the oem discs/pads.

Will report how they are they I get them fitted and have bedded them in

The min thickness figure is suppposed to be a "safe" figure, for the presumption that the pads get inspected at every fixed service, and never in between times.

Absolutely do not use Green Stuff. AwesomeSarah and I both know several completely independant sets of people who've had problems with this rubbish warping discs.

I fitted this Mintex TT kit when doing 312mm conversion, car stops ok but brakes judder at high speeds. I still haven't found out why, but I did follow the bedding instructions to the letter so if warped (if there is such a thing) I am not happy:mad:

amazing that they still bother making Greenstuff.. someone must keep buying them I suppose.

The main problem is local overheating and their propensity for depositing pad material onto the disc surface, which gives the impression of warped discs ie. pedal and brake judder, as a result of the highspots.

Quite bizarre when you consider how much better the redstuff and yellowstuff are.

would this set fit my 2.0 elegance 51 plate?
