NIC status not updating?

Featured Replies

This is really annoying me.

On a set of HP DL360 / 380 / 385 servers, I have dual network connections, teaming them together to be network tolerant.

If one gets disconnected, you get the "disconnected" icon in the system tray which confirms what's mentioned in the Network Connections area of control panel.

If that connection is then restored, it still says it's disconnected   :thumbdwn: If you go to network connections, double click on the allegedly disconnected network to bring up the protocols and services screen thingy then click ok, it magically updates and says connected.

Any ideas?

I presume thats its a Windows 2003 Server then?

Is this using the HP nic util? - ive had something similar, installing the latest version solved it, it wasnt limited to a specific version either

Hi Col,

yes, it is Windows Server 2003 R2 on all servers.

and yes, it is the HP Network Configuration Utility version 8.60.0.11

I'll have a check on HP's website for a more up to date version...

Cheers

Hmm, no better :(

Have the latest NIC drivers and installed the latest version of the network whotsit and still no change.

Back to the drawing board :(

Have you checked to see if there is an updated firmware revision for your nics? if there isn't an update it might be worth re-applying the PSP or upgrading to the latest PSP 7.90a. This does depend on your build standards though.

PSP? Upgrading PSP?

I've left mine running firmware 1.50 so I can do homebrew stuff, but guess you're talking about something different here :o

Updated the HP Network Configuration Utility for Windows Server 2003 to version 8.80.0.0, and also updated the NC-Series Multifunction Driver for WS2003 to version 3.4.10.0

When I initially installed the updated HPNCU, it did say that the miniport drivers needed updating too, so did that but still have the status updating issue.

A bit of researching did pop up a MSKB entry or two for status not updating that applied to XP and WS2003, and it did specify that this could happen with teamed adapters, however the suggested "workaround" involves just hitting F5 / refresh but that doesn't work for me.

I'll carry on searching........

Thanks for the idea though Matt. Will look at firmware on the NICs, but please clarify PSP for me

PSP is the Proliant Support Pack. This is the HP drivers, HP Utilities, HP Agents etc. When installing a server using the smart start cd the PSP is automatically installed. When you built the server the smart start cd would have a version number on it, that is the PSP version. The latest PSP is 7.90a.

You might find the issue is down to an old foundation agent or something like that.

Software and Drivers - download ProLiant Support Pack for Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 7.90 A

Our standard at work is PSP 7.60a, and we have the Nic issue. I just need some time to evaluate v7.90a.

Hmm. So I'm not the only one.

Well, 7.90a doesn't seem to fix it, at least on a DL360 G5.

What Service Pack are you running? All out 2003 R2 servers are still on SP1
