Socket Outlet

Featured Replies

I'm a new owner of a Favorit LXiE,who needs some advice.

On dash just below the heater controls is a dummy plug which on removal reveals a 'socket outlet' according to my owners manual.

Whats it for?Can I convert it to a cig lighter.If yes,how.

The "G" models came with cigarette lighters. You might be able to pull one off one at a scrappie. AFAIK they are no longer available at dealers.

You could also buy a cig lighter socket at Maplins and wire that up and bodge it in there somehow.

Or maybe something like this? Find Cigarette / Cigar lighter socket (Rectangular) 12 Volt on eBay within Electrical Security, Accessories, Motorcycle Parts Accessories, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 30-Oct-07 05:58:42 GMT)

it is, and to convert it, you'll need to get behind it to start playing with your wiring, and find a lighter from another car. difficulty.

piece of p1ss job to change sockets , even for a muppit!

Knab yourself a clock too if you find a "G" model in the scrappies. In the lx models on the roof there's a little plastic trim where the clock should be, that unclips very easily. I presume that then you simply need to wire it in somehow to the positive of the interior light and the earth.

My clock has been showing "1888" ever since I got the car... It isn't worth fixing 'cos it's in such a stupid place that only rear seat passengers can see it with ease. Gotta take my eyes too far off the road ahead to see the b****y thing...

Mine's similar. Been meaning to take it out and see if anything can be done with it.

lighter socket usually is left of the ASHTRAY think some were fitted with blanking plates. however Its not that easy to fit or replace the socket without taking most of the heater control assembly out. The person before me that did similar on my car didnt fit the screws back in and the ashtray bounced about. took a good hour to figure it all out to get it all screwed back together again.

Both my Favorits had Bosch power sockets in place of the cigarette lighter.

Much better for me as I was constantly changing Ham radio gear in the car.

Conection was far more secure than the cigarette lighter plug.

Since found out that they are better known as Hella Accessory Plugs - Quite common on some BMW bikes.

Do you have to plug a cigarette lighter socket into one to run your mobile phone charger? ;)

sadly yes:)

The socket in my Felly snapped off the mounting plate inside and when I glued it back in, for some reason I couldn't do so with the wires attached to the back, now the socket is secure but doesn't work because I can't get the plug connected back on

I put in a cig. lighter plug in my wifes Fav by buying one from a local autoparts store and wiring it to the fuse box. Easy as pie.
