Getting a cable into the boot!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of installing my sub! I've manage to run the cable to the headunit and then down the side of the trim right up to the rear seats.

Just wondering, how do I get the cables into the boot neatly?

I read the pimpmyskoda guide, but im guessing the estate doesn't have rear speakers where we do as I can't pull away the rear trim as the rear speaker lot is in the way.

How have you guys done it? I don't have to remove the seat do I?

does the seat cover the end of the trim? i would just come out from under the trim and under the boot carpet.

also relating to your other post, its not essential to run the rca's and power cable down different sides but sometime you can get interference which can be very annoying.

Ok, i've managed to do this now. Ran it under the seat and through the gap at the back. With some clever sub placement you wont be able to see it!!

Ok, now just to get the power cable down.

I've done loads of searchs but still am confused.

Removing the scuttle planel looks nuts, like it's properly under the bottom of the windscreen rubber. How the hell does it go back in?

:(

I'm stuck!

Search for removing the scuttle pannel - it is well covered on here - I know I have posted instructions a number fo times. Key tip is to be careful to avoid breaking it! Searching for "wiper linkage" might help to track some details down as well.

Well, I've pretty much looked at all the threads I could find!

Still slighty confused, the scuttle panel is under the rubber at the bottom of the windscreen. How the hell would I get it back on?!

I got the dealer to remove mine as I was too scared of breaking something :o.

Once you see it come off it's easy to understand how but dificult to explain it, if that makes sense. (It sort of pops off a 90 degrees to the screen, should come off by hand without any need for tools unless you want to remove the wipers)

Makes a horrible noise when it goes too

Theres an edge which clips into the bottom of your windscreen you need to get your fingers under the rubber bit and pull away from the screen

If you get me !!!

I know it's a bit crap but if you look at the arrows you need to pull away from the screen in the durection I've drawn obviously removing the wiper arms first. As I said earlier theres a groove running the lenth of your screen and the scuttle panel has a corresponding edge which clips into the groove, which you need to unclip to remove the panel

Thanks to steeve wonder for the photo again

I'm sure he won't mind me using another one!!!

Thanks mate.

Managed it in the end.

Just run the 5 meter cable, it JUST reaches!!!!

Going to have to have the amp/sub on the right hand side instead of the left of the boot but I can live with that!!!!

:)

Why isn't it all on the left hand side? That's the obvious side for running the power cable up the car?

Because it's best to seperate power and the rcas... plus it's how pimpmyskoda.co.uk did it :)

Yes, but the battery is on the left handside (passenger side) of the car, so why not just route it all the way down the passenger side?

I dunno why I did it that way. Oh yeah, because my amp is at that side and my car PC was going at the other :D

Yeah, I've seen your site, quite a few helpfull snippets in there!

I've recently fitted an amp in my boot. The power cable runs down the passenger side of the car, over the rear arch and drops down where the CD changer used to live. The two sets of RCA's and all other signal cables have been run down the drivers side.

Other than the fiddly gromet access for the power cable it's probably the easiest car for installing wiring ever!

Dan, how did you get the cables from the rear seat trim to the back neatly? I've gone out of the trim and under the seat then through the gap :(

Not the neatest but it works.

Well, because I haven't got my CD changer in anymore, I carried on from the sills, up and over the rear arch, where the speakers are, and fed the cable out at the back of the boot behind the light clusters
